Position Description

DISCIPLESHIP PASTOR

The position of Discipleship Pastor is a ministerial position that carries out Grace Community Church's mission, which is to help people know and follow Jesus.  The position requires the employee to have a ministerial credential and to perform a full range of ministerial functions.  In order to perform these ministerial functions, the employee must adhere to the church’s Statement of Faith and general beliefs.

ADULT DISCIPLESHIP

·       Lead GCC in a gospel-centered discipleship pathway for adults consistent with GCC's mission of helping people know and follow Jesus.

·       Provide consistent synchronization of GCC’s discipleship pathway between children, youth, young adults and adults.

·       Provide training and support for the multiplication of adult discipleship opportunities, including Bible and book studies, classes, Community and Small Groups, classes, and baptisms.

·       Developing a team of teachers/instruction/facilitators with training and support for Bible and book studies, classes, Community and Small Groups, and classes.

·       Provide training and support for the follow-up and initial discipleship of new and rededicated believers which is done through the Connect Cards.

·       Follow up with individuals or families who connected with a Pastoral Team member following weekend services. 

·       Teach Bible Studies and Classes as time allows.

SMALL GROUPS

·        Oversee, approve, and suggest curriculum for small groups.

·        Oversee an effective leadership development process for Small Group Leaders.

·        Ensure accurate attendance records (including contact information of all attendees) are kept on file for GCC staff and Pastoral Team to access.

·        Develop healthy relationships with small group leaders and ensure they are well-resourced to succeed.

·        Oversees GCC’s Group Finder.

BAPTISM

·       Provide leadership for baptisms at GCC. 

·       Lead a team of volunteers to ensure GCC can host at least four baptisms per year in the sanctuary. 

·       Oversee the baptism pathway and ensure candidates are properly prepared to undergo baptism at GCC. 

·       Oversee and coordinate the baptism service with the Associate Pastor, Worship Director, Maintenance Department and Tech Department. 

·       Coordinate the set up and tear down baptismal pool.

GCC SPONSORED CONFERENCES

·       Provide administrative support for GCC sponsored conferences including but not limited to marriage and parenting conference in collaboration with the Men’s Ministry, Women’s Ministry, and Counseling Departments. 

PREACHING AND CONGREGATIONAL CARE

·       Serve as a preacher when assigned by the Lead Pastor.

·       Schedule dedicated time for reading, study, research, and writing.

·       Prepare and deliver expositional sermons with clear life applications.

·       Assist with congregational care as the need arises and as time permits.

ADMINISTRATION

·       Meet weekly with the Associate Pastor for personal and professional mentoring and accountability.

·       Participate in weekly staff prayer.

·       Attend monthly all-staff meetings.

·       Attend Ministry Council as needed.

EDUCATION

·       Undergraduate and/or graduate level training in Bible, theology, and church ministry

EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION:  Consistent with the provisions of GCC's Employee Handbook, and as authorized by the Ministry Council, this position is an at-will, full-time, exempt position.  The responsibilities of this position are expected to be carried out in the context of a 45-hour workweek, which does include weekend assignments. 

DIRECT REPORT:  This position reports directly to the Associate Pastor.
