Senior Pastor Job Description

●       Position Title: Lead / Senior Pastor

●       Location: Olympia, Washington (Life Pointe Church)

●       Reports To: Church Board / Elder Leadership

●       Position Status: Full-Time

Position Overview: Life Pointe Church seeks a spiritually mature, biblically grounded, and relationally warm Senior Pastor to lead our congregation of about 85 people in Olympia, Washington. Nestled at the southern tip of the Puget Sound with Mount Rainier as a backdrop, our stunningly beautiful state capital boasts a highly educated, progressive, and fiercely independent population that can at times be challenging to the Christian faith. Yet, this post-Christian context makes Olympia an incredibly fertile ground for authentic, relationship-first ministry. In line with our mission to help people find and follow Jesus, our next leader will see this cultural skepticism not as a barrier but as an invitation—shepherding our congregation, championing sound biblical teaching, and inspiring people from all walks of life to discover and grow in a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Core Responsibilities

1. Preaching and Biblical Teaching

●       Lead weekly Sunday worship services with engaging, biblically faithful, and culturally relevant expository preaching.

●       Ensure sound theological teaching and spiritual nourishment that helps both new seekers and mature believers take their next steps with God.

●       Oversee and approve the teaching calendar and curriculum for sermon series, children’s ministries, Life Groups, in collaboration with pastoral and creative teams.

2. Spiritual Leadership and Vision Casting

●       As Lead Elder, supervise, encourage, and hold accountable elders and staff to cast, refine, and execute a long-term vision for the church.

●       Model a vibrant personal walk with Jesus Christ, personal integrity, and pastoral humility.

●       Help shape church culture so that every attendee feels genuinely welcomed, known, and integrated into community life.

3. Shepherding and Pastoral Care

●       Provide compassionate pastoral care, guidance, and spiritual counseling to the congregation during critical life moments (weddings, funerals, hospital visits, and crises).

●       Oversee and empower a care network (including staff and lay leaders) to ensure people are supported through life’s challenges.

4. Leadership, Staff, and Team Development

●       Supervise, mentor, and evaluate church staff and ministry directors, fostering a healthy, collaborative, and mission-driven team environment.

●       Train, equip, and raise up lay leaders and volunteers to share in the work of ministry.

●       Lead regular staff and leadership meetings to ensure operational and spiritual alignment.

5. Community Engagement and Outreach

●       Represent Life Pointe Church graciously within the greater Olympia, Lacey, and Thurston County community.

●       Build bridges with local civic organizations, other Christian churches, and outreach networks to serve the local region.

●       Champion local and global mission initiatives.

Candidate Qualifications

Spiritual & Character Requirements

●       A clear, growing, and authentic personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

●       Meets the biblical qualifications of an elder/pastor as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1–7 and Titus 1:5–9.

●       A heart for Pacific Northwest culture and deep compassion for unchurched or dechurched individuals.

Education & Experience

●       Bachelor’s degree in theology, biblical studies, or a related field required; Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or equivalent graduate theological training preferred.

●       7+ years of pastoral leadership experience, with a proven track record as a senior, lead, or associate/campus pastor in a growing church environment.

●       Relational Intelligence: Approachable, an active listener, and able to handle conflict and complex pastoral situations with grace.

●       Collaborative Builder: Skilled at working alongside an existing board/elder structure and empowering staff rather than operating as a solo figurehead.
