Job Description:

On December 23, 2012 the facility at 1790 Charnelton became home to a new work of grace that represents the re-opening of a church that previously had a profound impact on Lane County.  It is called New Hope Eugene (NHE).  The former church was Lighthouse Temple, an Open Bible Church that birthed the Open Bible denomination and started the Bible College currently known as New Hope Christian College.  With that understanding, New Hope Eugene is a church birthed out of both a great history and a divine partnership.

It is currently a growing dynamic church with over 1500 attendees during the weekend services. Including 200+ kids attending one of their 4 services.

To help people Discover God by Reaching our community and beyond with the good news that Jesus saves (Luke 15, 19:10)

To help people Discover Community by Teaching believers through the Bible how to love God and love their neighbors as themselves (Col. 1:28; Matthew 22:37-40)

To help people Discover Purpose by Sending believers out into our community to express God's love through their unique calling (Rom. 10:13-15; Acts 1:8)

Core Values

We believe that every person, Christian and non-Christian alike, is valuable to God and to His Kingdom.

Because people are eternally valuable to God, they are to us as well. Responsible evangelism will always be our cause and ongoing discipleship will always be the core of the ministry.

We believe that "doing church as a team" is God's design for effective ministry.

A Spirit-empowered serving with the willing-hearted involvement of every person is vital to God's plan being accomplished.

We believe that a simple presentation of Jesus Christ in creative ways will impact and transform lives.

Relating to our culture through redeeming the arts while remaining true to the Scriptures is a balance we will always keep.  This allows us to present the Gospel in a way that reaches the heart.

In keeping with the Great Commandment, we believe every member should commit to a lifestyle of consistent spiritual growth with honest accountability.

A genuine love for God is always the first priority.  Every Christian should yearn for continual spiritual growth.  Therefore, discipleship through small groups, accountability, and open honesty is critical to maturing in our faith.

We believe that every member is a minister who has been given gifts to be discovered, developed and deployed.

We are a gift-based, volunteer driven church.  Every believer will find their greatest joy and fulfillment when serving in their spiritual gifts and passion.  Every believer is created for ministry, gifted for ministry, authorized for ministry and needed for ministry.

We believe that God is worthy of our very best.

Therefore, a growing spirit of excellence should permeate every activity. Not perfection, but excellence with consistent evaluation and a willingness to improve for the sake of the Kingdom of God are distinctive of growing ministries.

We believe that genuine love and caring relationships are key to the life of every believer.

Refusing to give audience to a spirit of complaining, we will instead be courageous in solving every problem in a way that honors God and builds biblical character.  We value healthy relationships by protecting the unity of the Spirit of our church.

We believe that the most effective evangelism happens through people inviting people.

We believe that a life will reach a life.  Each believer develops genuine relationships with friends and family and extends an invitation to them.  Evangelism gets to be a normal, natural lifestyle of winning others to Christ, one by one.

We believe in identifying and training emerging leaders who are fully committed to Christ and who will reach their generation with the Gospel.

God is raising up men and women who will take the baton of godly character, authentic faith, and servant-hearted leadership into the next generation.

Our Foundational Support

New Hope Eugene's partnership lies in a fruitful relationship between two organizations, New Hope International (a global network started by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro) and Open Bible Churches.  Open Bible's support and initiative in this church plant, under the leadership of Pastor Gary Emery, has been courageous, unwavering, and life-giving as has that of NHI.  Pastor Gary and Pastor Wayne bring a tremendous resource, serving as coaches and occasional speakers for the church.

Pastoral Leadership

New Hope Eugene is led by Pastors Aaron Sutherland and Steve Kenny.

Pastor Aaron & his wife Paula, along with their two sons Ethan and Isaac, have experienced the crazy world of church planting before.  They planted and pastored Desert Song Community Church in Redmond, Oregon for eight years before answering the call to start New Hope Eugene.

Pastor Steve and his wife Cindy, along with their kids David, Aaron, Nathan & Samantha moved to Eugene in 2010 to help plant New Hope Eugene.  Pastor Steve has served in pastoral ministry in Arizona, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington and is now very excited to call Eugene home.

A Unique Academic Partnership

New Hope Eugene is a church built on the central mission of Christ - winning the lost, discipling the saved, training the called and reaching the world with the good news of Christ.  It has a vibrant and intentional relationship with New Hope Christian College and offers an internship program so those training for ministry will have a field of practicum in which to develop their faith and skills.

Among the many exciting things about New Hope Eugene is the connection it has to New Hope Christian College.  As stated above, part of the design of the church is that it serves as a "lab" environment for those training in ministry.  For example, those studying for children's ministry actually get to be involved with our Kid City children's ministry at the church.  The same is true for technology, youth, music, administration and all of the other elements of church life.  At New Hope Eugene, the students get to take what they are learning and put it into practice in a real-time environment.  NHE, however, is not just a church for students. Its design is for the community to partner alongside all of its ministries, so it ultimately becomes a community of faith for all ages and stations in life.

What New Hope is Passionate About?

Since the passion of NHE is to reach people who do not yet know Jesus, we desire to show our community the genuine love of God in tangible ways.  Whether it is through giving Thanksgiving boxes to needy families from a nearby elementary school, or sharing the story of Christmas through our "Lights At New Hope", ours is a church that sincerely wants to be a blessing to our city.

We are filled with excitement about all that God has planned in the seasons to come.  Above all else we understand that this is His church, and we simply want to join with Jesus in what He is already doing.
