A Campus (Location) Pastor is…

        a high capacity leader fully committed to lead people to Jesus through leading, growing, and pastoring their church.


Qualifications and Characteristics:

  1. Fully committed follower of Jesus and live according to Staff Agreement.

  2. Passionate about reaching every person in the city.

  3. Have excelled in leadership roles in either a church or corporate environment.

  4. A hungry learner and a track record of leading yourself well.

  5. Ability to lead leaders and build volunteer teams.

  6. A strong communicator (and okay with not preaching often).

  7. Organized and able to handle administrative duties.

  8. Embrace change and can adapt quickly with a “we can do anything” attitude.

  9. Make things better through evaluating and improving processes.

  10. Able to figure it out, follow through, and get it done.

  11. Like to laugh, have fun and enjoy celebrating.


Lead yourself well.

  • The spiritual temperature of your location starts with you.

  • Keep a fresh, consistent, and healthy habit of prayer, Bible reading and spiritual disciplines.

  • Continually learn in the areas of: church ministry, theology, apologetics, and Biblical interpretation as well as leadership, organizational strategy, and execution.

  • Develop in your public speaking and writing.

Lead the team that leads the church.

  • Location Pastor  >> Location Staff  >> Location Leaders  >> Team Members

  • Key Location Staff Roles:

    • Life Group Director

    • Kids Director

    • Guest Services Director

    • Environments Director

    • Next Steps Director

    • Worship Leader

    • Production Director

  • Coach and develop location staff, as they coach and develop their leaders and teams.

    • Evaluate and communicate weekly through the Location Staff Report.

    • Meet regularly as a team and individually.

      • Relationship building, information sharing, leadership development, spiritual development, making it better, overcoming challenges, fun and celebration

      • Lead annual review for recognition and coaching.

    • Execute and improve standard operating procedures, systems and structures.

    • Provide shared experiences for fun, spiritual growth, and leadership development.

    • Regularly equip your leaders with curated leadership and area-specific resources.

    • Partner with Central Directors to ensure training is happening in each ministry area.

    • Lead each leader to develop an apprentice for their role.

    • Leverage All Staff Rallies and church events.

      • Set value and expectation of full participation for those invited.

Grow and pastor your church.

  • Create engaging and sticky worship experiences that are executed with excellence and point to Jesus.

    • Participate and contribute to weekly experience planning and creative meetings as needed.

    • Create moments - from the streets to the seats.

    • Prepare and present meaningful content for hosting and huddles.

    • Be available and prepared to jump in at any point if there is a technology problem.

    • Connect with new guests before and after each experience.

    • Arrange weekly transport of all supplies, equipment, and offering/connection cards.

    • Create irresistible environments throughout your facility.

      • Build a positive relationship with facility staff.

      • Maintain, repair and improve your facility spaces as needed.

      • Plan for and handle venue changes and weather related issues.

  • Fully work the systems that provide care, growth, and build relationships within your church.

      • Identify and develop growing and passionate life group leaders.

      • Provide keystone life groups and beyond at your location.

      • Drive participation in life groups during the year.

    • Volunteer Experience*

      • Includes: onboarding, check-ins, rallies, parties, conferences, offboarding, etc.

      • Lead people to serve in their sweet spot, by helping them identify and develop their God-given gifts.

      • Ensure you achieve your Minimum Health Number for volunteer staffing.

  • Create an inviting and sticky culture through stories, celebration, recognition, resources, and hustle.

    • Drive new guest attendance and guest retention.*

    • Sunday attendance should be increasing over time.*

  • Create and leverage opportunities and systems for people to make the decision to follow Jesus and be baptized.*

  • Pray over and follow up with connection cards.

  • Build and invest into strategic relationships with stakeholders: location leaders, life group leaders, financial leaders, high capacity people, influencers.

    • Also local community influencers and other churches and ministries

  • Create opportunities for fun and celebration: through special days and elevating the ordinary.

    • Location birthday, holidays, volunteer rallies, etc.

  • Regularly communicate through email and video and leverage your online presence to connect, celebrate, teach, resource, and inform your church.

  • Partner in planning Community Outreach.

  • Help plan and execute special events and meetings.

  • Perform pastoral care visits, weddings, funerals, baptisms, and lead communion as needed.

  • Make wise decisions to best steward location budget and equipment.

Other responsibilities:

  • Location pastors often carry additional responsibilities based on their gifting and organizational need and will contribute and lead other things as they arise, that will move us forward in our vision.
