Job Description:

The music director will demonstrate a strong commitment to Jesus Christ while developing and implementing a music ministry that enhances the worship of God and whole ministry of the church. The music director will have a pattern of personal discipleship and understands gospel-powered life and service.

 

The music director, will become a mission partner (member) and is accountable to the Lead Pastor or his designate on a day-to-day basis as a member of the worship ministry team.  As a member of the staff, the music director will also interface regularly and cooperatively with other staff members, and the congregation.

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

 

Overall accountability for the total music ministry of the church, including the following:

  • Lead worship band/choir/team
  • Special seasonal music (including hiring musicians if needed)
  • Secure substitutes to provide music leadership when needed
  • Purchase all music, supplies, equipment, and supervise their maintenance
  • Work closely with the Lead Pastor in planning and help lead morning worship services
  • Select music from both hymns and contemporary songs that are theologically sound and blend well with the sermon theme
  • Attend regular worship service planning meetings
  • Participate in and encourage music outreach to the community
  • Grow and develop the music ministry in line with the mission of the church
  • Seek to help musicians in their spiritual growth
  • Other related and associated duties as assigned by supervisor

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Diligent in personal prayer life, Bible study and earnestly pursues spiritual growth
  • Ability to recruit and train musicians to be involved in the worship team, and develop multiple worship teams
  • A worshiper who is gifted to help/lead others in congregational worship
  • Flexibility to consider, assess, and implement new and innovative methods and programs to enhance the musical ministry and worship of the church
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Exhibit versatility with a variety of music styles and media
  • Good communication skills
  • Understands this role as a calling and is in alignment with 1 Tim 3 and Titus 1
  • Eagerness and willingness to share the gospel, seeking to win people to Christ

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in voice, and music direction
  • Ability (or willingness to learn) to read chord charts and/or play by ear desirable
  • Familiarity with hymns and contemporary worship music
  • Competency regarding music presentation software

Experience and Training

  • Three to five years of experience as a worship leader
  • Continually seeks to grow as a music minister
