Job Title:               Youth Pastor (PT)

Reports To:           Executive Pastor

Schedule:              Part Time, attend most Sunday services

 

Purpose of Position 

The mission of the church is To encounter the love and power of God and give it away to the world. The Youth Pastor, will play a critical role in helping us achieve this mission by

  • Building intentional disciple making relationships with Indy Vineyard students and adult volunteers
  • Promote a culture of prayer and worship where students grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus
  • Partner with families to give parents the tools to multiply spiritual impact at home
  • Integrate youth in to the community and the ministries of Indy Vineyard Church
  • Design and implement events for students to encounter God in diverse ways
  • Recruiting, training, and retaining the team of youth ministry volunteers

 

The Youth Pastor will serve a dynamic role in teaching our students to love Jesus, the local church, and learn to value the church as part of their inheritance in Jesus.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities


Disciple Maker

  • Present the Gospel often to all students, giving them the opportunity to respond to Jesus in faith then encourage them to be baptized
  • Build team of volunteers and youth leaders by mentoring adults and youth to be able to disciple the Indy Vineyard students into maturity in Jesus
  • Cultivate relationships with students by spending time with them
  • Recruit, train, and retain team of committed adult volunteers to ensure abundant opportunities for students to connect with adults
  • Equip parents as the primary disciple makers by providing resources and events that create teachable moments
  • Prepare students for next steps like leaving home for college or transition in to young adults ministries
  • Maintain a safe, fun environment for youth and adults

Culture Cultivator

  • Follow and continually update the vision documents for Indy Vineyard youth ministry
  • Communicate the vision of youth ministry to youth, families, and all of church
  • Integrate youth in to Indy Vineyard Church community by encouraging involvement of youth in whole church ministries
  • Implement a high-touch family culture that reaches students and volunteers where they are (utilizing texts, social media, face-to-face visits, etc)
  • Utilize language from vision documents continually to build shared language and continuity

Event Manager

  • Preplan and communicate meeting agenda with all leaders at least 3 days before meeting
  • Provide many opportunities for students and volunteers to plan and execute youth events
  • Design and implement 2-3 annual “invite” events
  • Coordinate 2-3 annual “mountain top” events
  • Find and utilize Outreach / Service events, create them if necessary

Resource Manager

  • Ensure that youth room is clean and well maintained
  • Schedule youth leaders, both students and adults
  • Manage youth ministries budget

Advocate

  • Attend all-staff meetings
  • Meet weekly with Executive Pastor
  • Communicate regularly with church about youth ministry and partnerships

Desired Gifting and Competencies 

  • Experience serving in at Indy Vineyard Church
  • Experience developing and training volunteers
  • Experience leading and working with students
  • Strong communication skills; individually and organizationally
  • Ability to utilize and leverage all forms of technology
  • Fan of current popular culture and all forms of social media

Personal Requirements

  • A passionate and growing relationship with Jesus and hunger for his presence and activity in the church 
  • A sense of calling to an “equipping of the saints.”
  • Commitment to Indy Vineyard Mission, Vision and Values
  • Personal discretion concerning information of ministry and individual relationships
  • Personal integrity and self-motivation in the fulfillment of ministry
  • Willingness to grow and adapt to changes in a growing local church
  • Strength to risk change in the face of inertia and resistance
