To provide pastoral oversight to the High School Ministry (HSM) of Scottsdale Bible Church, overseeing all aspects of ensuring the spiritual growth and development of students from 9th through 12th grade.



Reports to the Youth Ministry Pastor, Joel Thompson.


Full time, exempt, minimum of 40 hours per week



Vision Casting

  • Cast the vision of HSM to students, volunteer leaders, and parents of SBC.
  • Share the vision of and represent HSM to the entire church.
  • Continually keep the vision in the forefront by projecting it, living it, repeating it and praising it.

Team Building

  • Provide leadership to and care for the HSM team.
  • Direct the recruitment, training, and development of volunteers as needed to staff weekly programs and special events.
  • Implement and oversee all applicable safety and security measures and insure compliance and training of all HSM team members.
  • Be available to train Ministers in Residence (MIRs) and Interns for the work of the ministry.
  • Oversee the following teams:
    • Welcome Center Team – 2-4 people
    • Connect Team – 2-4 people
    • Greeter Team – 4-6 people
    • Fishers of Men – 4-6 people
    • Prayer Team – 6-8 people
    • AVL Team – 1-2 people
    • Service Coordinator Team – 1-2 people
    • Photography Team – 2-4 people
    • Social Media Team – 1-2 people
    • Video Production Team – 1-2 people
  • Develop any new ministry teams as necessary


Ministry Execution

  • Teach and preach to students the Truth of God’s Word through culturally relevant, and high-energy services including the weekly student-driven worship.
  • Write small group curriculum to compliment teaching topics and train leaders on content and delivery of curriculum.
  • Educate, encourage and facilitate students to participate in evangelical outreach locally with peers, the community and worldwide through special events and mission trips.
  • Cast vision for, teach, and program any retreats or camps for students through utilization of music selection, development of messages/teaching, and use of games and other artistic elements to inspire students to learn about God.
  • Create and manage an HSM calendar that will drive all the activities and teaching of the ministry but also align with the church’s calendar and programs.
  • Design, plan, and conduct periodic student parent meetings in order to engage and update families of high school students attending SBC.
  • Be an active presence in local high schools and work with students to reach people on their campuses.
  • Counsel students, volunteers and parents and equip leaders to provide counsel.


Other Responsibilities

  • Delegate tasks and responsibilities well.
  • Assist in the development of an annual budget for HSM and manage budget throughout the fiscal year.
  • Function as a member of the pastoral staff performing baptism services, weddings, funerals, etc. as appropriate.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.



  • Must meet the qualifications of 1 Timothy 3:1-7
  • Fully committed follower of Christ; agree with SBC’s Statement of Faith.

  • Flexible and able to work in a multi-faceted environment with little supervision; personable in working with staff and volunteers; ability to forecast as well as attend to weekly details.



This position requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as a staff member in a student ministry leadership capacity with extensive experience with creative programming related to student programs and special events.  Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical studies or related field is required. (Extensive ministry experience, in some cases, may be substituted.)
