DIRECTOR OF DISCIPLESHIP FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH

POSITION RESPONSIBILITY

Oversee and develop ministries with young people (newborn - 12th grade), empowering them to be wholehearted followers of Jesus Christ who share God’s love with the world.

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES (Birth - 5th grade)

  • ?  PROGRAM: Coordinate a growing Sunday morning children’s program that engages and inspires children, and leaves parents feeling confident about the quality of children’s programming.

  • ?  CURRICULUM: Choose and deploy an engaging program curriculum that theologically aligns with Quest.

  • ?  VOLUNTEERS: Recruit, train, oversee, schedule, and support program volunteers. Ensure that all volunteers have had a background check.

  • ?  CALENDAR: Develop an annual children’s ministry programming calendar that is clearly communicated to families.

  • ?  STAFF: Oversee any part-time children’s ministry staff, including: nursery workers, interns, and any additional staff hired in the future.

  • ?  FOLLOW-UP: Ensure effective follow-up with all children who are first time guests to Quest Children’s Ministry programs or events.

  • ?  VBS: Oversee annual VBS, including: selection of curriculum; recruitment and training of volunteers; coordination of daily VBS schedule; promotion; effective follow-up with unchurched families.

  • ?  DEVELOPMENT: Identify children’s ministry needs/opportunities on the horizon and work with the Lead Pastor to implement new programming to meet those needs/opportunities.

    YOUTH MINISTRY RESPONSIBILITIES (6th-12th grade)

  • ?  PROGRAM: Develop and coordinate a growing, weekly youth program that engages and inspires youth, and leaves parents feeling confident about the quality of youth programming.

  • ?  CURRICULUM: In partnership with the Youth Ministry Coordinator, choose an engaging program curriculum that theologically aligns with Quest.

  • ?  VOLUNTEERS: In partnership with the Youth Ministry Coordinator, recruit, train, oversee, schedule, and support program volunteers. Ensure that all volunteers have had a background check.

  • ?  CALENDAR: In partnership with the Youth Ministry Coordinator, develop an annual youth ministry programming calendar that is clearly communicated to families and teens.

  • ?  FOLLOW-UP: Ensure effective follow-up with all youth who are first time guests to Quest Youth Ministry programs or events.

  • ?  DEVELOPMENT: In partnership with the Youth Ministry Coordinator, identify youth ministry needs/opportunities on the horizon and work with the Lead Pastor to implement new programming to meet those needs/opportunities.

    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • ?  SAFETY PROTOCOLS: Oversee all safety protocols for children/youth ministries, and familiarize volunteers and staff with safety procedures, including: check in/out, Safe Sanctuaries, weather emergencies, fire, active threat, overnight trips, food allergies, etc.

  • ?  COMMUNICATION: Communicate about events/programs in a timely and effective way to ensure confident participation of staff, volunteers, children, and youth.

  • ?  ENGAGEMENT: Know as many children, youth, and their parents by name as possible. Be visible to parents and young people on Sunday mornings.

  • ?  CONTROL DOCUMENTS: Control documents have been developed, updated, and distributed in a timely fashion. These include, respectively: children/youth ministry directories, children/youth ministry calendars, registration forms, volunteer directories.

  • ?  OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintain regular office hours, work with other ministry staff, attend weekly staff meeting, attend Lead Team meetings, regular communication with Lead Pastor.

  • ?  CONGREGATIONAL CARE: Share congregational care needs with Lead Pastor as they emerge.

  • ?  BUDGET: Submit an annual budget request for Children’s and Youth Ministry in late summer.

    CHARACTER QUALIFICATIONS

    Models a life of spiritual maturity as a growing follower of Jesus Christ. Relational, good communicator, organized, energetic, teachable, team-player. Worships weekly with Quest and is visible to direct reports, parents, and young people.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

    Bachelor’s degree, especially in education or ministry. Experience leading ministry programming in a church (or parachurch) setting; experience in children and/or youth ministry preferred.

    THEOLOGICAL ALIGNMENT

    Quest is a United Methodist congregation. Candidate must align with the historic Wesleyan-Methodist expression of Christian faith described in the ?Book of Discipline ?of the UMC. Although many attendees

of Quest came from a different Christian tradition, or none at all, this is our congregation’s theological foundation. Navigating those differences is a necessity.

SUPERVISOR

Lead Pastor. Accountable to the Staff-Parish Team (SPRC). Assigned a SPRC Liaison for enhanced communication and support from SPRC.
