The youth leader at the Mott Haven Reformed Church will possess the following qualifications:
A committed Christian, willing to become a member of the Reformed Church in America. Demonstrates a lifestyle consistent with a relationship with the Lord, Jesus Christ; prayer, worship and study of the Scripture. Is an integral member of the community of
faith at Mott Haven attending the worship service, bible study, regular prayer sessions and other church activites throughout the year. Has ministerial experience working with youth and young adults in an urban setting. Understands the urban context and ministry
both inside and outside of the church. The youth leader is both a team leader and a team member; has the ability to collaborate with other members of the ministerial staff, congregation and community leaders working with adolescents and young adults.
Primary responsibilities include: Christian faith formation of youth and young adults through worship, application of Scripture to life situations, prayer, and development of Scriptural based values. Support of youth and young adults by creating emotionally,
mentally, physically and spiritually safe spaces for youth and young adults to learn, challenge and live their faith. Develop trusting and confidential relationships with youth and young adults. Create or escort youth and young adults to age approriate activities
that are both inside and outside of the church. Meet and develop relationships with caregivers of youth and young adults. Integrate youth and young adults into the regular worship service on a monthly basis; in addition to creating a worship service that is
relevant to and designed by youth and young adults.
Educational Preparation: Bachelors degree required, masters degree with a focus in urban ministry/youth ministry preferred.
Language Requirement: English required, Spanish important.
Experience: At least 3 years of youth ministry in a chruch in an urban setting.
Letters of reference from: Most recent religious leader and academic professor.
