Job Description:

Are you a builder with a passion for taking things to the next level? Does spending your days working for a cause bigger than yourself make your heart beat fast? Are you interested in helping a gospel-oriented church make disciples and impact its community?

New Hope’s new Pastor of Student Community will be responsible for the oversight and implementation of all youth ministry (high school and middle school) efforts for New Hope Church. The main areas of emphasis will be pastoral, programming, Life Groups, volunteer team building, and parent partnership. This person will be a high capacity, servant-hearted leader who is highly productive and pastorally motivated.


General Responsibilities:

  • Be pastorally present in the lives of volunteers and students
  • Partner with parents through regular communication and development environments
  • Create irresistible programming for high school and middle school students
  • Oversee teaching responsibilities for student ministries
  • Establish and encourage Life Groups for high school and middle school students
  • Build well connected, well trained, passionate, and envisioned volunteer teams


Specific Responsibilities:

Pastoral

  • Provide spiritual mentorship to New Hope students
  • Give pastoral leadership to volunteer teams
  • Shepherd students through inevitable high and lows
  • Exhibit a spirit of grace and patience to students as they grow and evolve
  • Introduce students to scripture, sound theology, and spiritual practices
  • Create a contagious culture that attracts and welcomes those outside the church
  • Invite students into an increasingly mature relationship with the broader church community
  • Exhibit and invite others into New Hope’s mission and core values

Parents

  • Partner with parents in stewarding the spiritual lives of their students
  • Regularly communicate with parents about student ministry initiatives
  • Engage parents in volunteering
  • Create development environments where parents can interact with each other, teachers, and parenting curriculum
  • Collaborate with New Hope’s Pastor of Kids Community in creating development environments for parents

Programming

  • Create irresistible programming for high school and middle school students
  • Implement dynamic and externally focused events
  • Determine and implement retreat/camp/mission trip experiences for students
  • Regularly invite students to exhibit New Hope’s justice value through acts of service

Teaching

  • Oversee teaching for all youth ministry efforts
  • A team approach is encouraged
  • Ensure gospel centered teaching for all students environments
  • Create engaging and impactful teaching moments that will help students live out their faith

Life Groups

  • Partner with Pastor of Life Groups to create Life Group environments for students
  • Develop volunteers to be vibrant and invested Life Group volunteers
  • Lead a weekly Life Group

Volunteers

  • Recruit and train volunteers for all aspects of student ministries
  • Envision, encourage, and support volunteers
  • Build teams that accomplish great things while staying grounded and connected to each other and Christ
  • Connect students to mature and caring adults who can walk alongside them in their spiritual journey


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Stable, mature, growing disciple of Jesus Christ, committed to the values of New Hope
  • Ready and willing to build the future of New Hope and its student ministry
  • Exhibit a spirit of joy and helpfulness          
  • Ability to lead, train, nurture, and pastor volunteers
  • Good interpersonal skills – ability to deal with a variety of people in different situations
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible and adaptable in a dynamic environment
  • Self-motivated: requires minimal direction of important tasks
  • Organized and responsible
  • Gifted and passionate in creating dynamic and engaging programs
  • High capacity in managing a variety of tasks
  • Humble and willing to learn
  • Professional training, undergraduate, or graduate degrees in related field preferred
  • Direct experience in vocational youth ministry is strongly preferred
  • Well versed in philosophies of youth ministry
  • Exhibits strong pastoral giftedness
