FORT CITY CHURCH (fortcitychurch.ca) has a dynamic position in Youth and Young Adult ministry available for a spiritually passionate, adventurous leader with a heart for the rugged culture of the Northern Alberta Oilsands. This
position has generously been made possible by donors across Canada to aid in our ongoing recovery from the May 2016 Fort McMurray wildfire. It is a one-year contract position with the possibility that it could transition into a permanent position.
While experience is an asset and highly appreciated, this position provides a great opportunity for someone early in their ministry career looking for an intentional ministry and leadership development opportunity. You will be serving with a strong team
who will equip and serve alongside of you, as together we work to make Jesus visible to our city.
This is Northern Alberta! This is Oilsands country! We are northern and frontier while also semi-urban and diverse. This is one of Canada’s youngest cities with an average age of 32, where people from across the country and around
the world come to make a great life for themselves and their families.
Fort McMurray values hard work and intense play. There’s a drive among the men and woman of our city to participate in sports of all descriptions while engaging in a growing music, arts and pub scene. Team sports of all types, as
well as hiking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, gaming, or enjoying the gym, are but a few of the passions you can enjoy! The region also provides ample opportunity for quading, snowmobiling, motocross, fishing, hunting and the shooting sports. Outdoor
adventure is a passion in our region.
Most importantly you’ll be serving with a church family that is committed to a holistic mission of word and deed. We are acutely sensitive to and inclusive of people from irreligious backgrounds while growing a community of fully alive mission focused Christ
followers. We want you to experience a compassionate grace filled community where everybody’s welcome, nobody’s perfect and because of God, we believe anything can happen. The church typically sees around 320 for Sunday worship with close to 900 who would
call Fort City their church home. Many who currently attend have come since the wildfire with relatively little church in their background. The ability to be able to hang out, do life with and enjoy people with little to no church in their backgrounds is critical.
With our young adults, that might even include a willingness to connect over a beer.
