Job Description:

We are hiring a Technical Arts Director to oversee and implement audio, video, lighting and staging requirements for all services and special events in the Calvary Church Sanctuary, and provide provisioning and support assistance for all other departments of Calvary Church. We moved into a new building in November 2015, giving our Technical Arts Director the ability to work in a new AVL environment. The right candidate should have experience in live sound reinforcement, projection software, IMAG, and stage lighting equipment and software. This is an exciting time at Calvary Church! Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in digital live sound reinforcement – Yamaha, Behringer, and PreSonis experience a plus
  • Experience with projection software, specifically EasyWorship, ProPresenter, or MediaShout
  • Familiarity with live video
  • Familiarity with stage lighting equipment and software – experience with Jands Vista a plus
  • Effective troubleshooter
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Detail oriented
  • Good people skills
  • Ability to relate to all age groups
  • Ability to recruit, organize and train technical teams
  • High level of organizational skills
  • Willingness to work under the direction of other leaders

Duties and Responsibilities:


Audio, Video, and Lighting (AVL)

–      Oversee AVL equipment and setup for the Sanctuary

–      Function as Producer for Sunday sanctuary services

–      Run sound or lighting as needed in service rotation

–      Ensure the provision of sound reinforcement, technical assistance and audio and/or video recording as required for other services and events, including weddings, funerals, concerts, school events, departmental training sessions and special events in the Sanctuary

–      Oversee the design and programming of light cues and settings for services and special events


Sanctuary Stage Management

–      Oversee stage setup for the sanctuary services including: Sunday morning, Sunday evening, special needs (e.g., children’s choir, etc.) and Wednesday evening

–      Oversee stage crews as needed for Sunday sanctuary services

–      Oversee all stage management for special events, including weddings, funerals, concerts, school events, and Vacation Bible School

–      Ensure that anyone who uses the Sanctuary resets the platform (e.g. graduations, special events, concerts, etc.)


Other Venues

–      Respond to AVL problems and ad hoc needs

–      Assist with the setup for special events (e.g. Prime Time events) as needed

–      Assist with the setup for outdoor services as needed

–      Assist with the setup for off-campus events (e.g. Friends of Christian Education Banquet) as needed


Technical Arts Team Building

–      Recruit, train and oversee new technical arts volunteers

–      Schedule technical crews for Sanctuary services and special events

–      Recruit, train and oversee stage crew as needed

–      Provide ongoing training and support for Sanctuary volunteer teams

–      Provide support to other departments as needed with scheduling technical crews


Equipment Procurement & Maintenance

–      Maintain the working condition of the AVL equipment in the Sanctuary

–      Assist other departments maintain the working condition of their AVL equipment

–      Follow appropriate Calvary Church procedures in procuring the repair, maintenance and replacement of AVL equipment throughout the church campus

–      Advise and work with the Worship Arts Executive Director on budgeting, purchasing and renting AVL equipment and services


Service Planning

–      Participate in programming meetings to plan the weekend services and other church-wide events

–      Capture and communicate the technical arts details for the weekend services and events

–      Direct and supervise the details of the technical arts requirements (sound, video, lighting and stage management) for the weekend services
