About the Organization:

Calvary Chapel is part of the larger association of like-minded churches as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Their supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed into His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Calvary Chapel of Delaware County began in 1993 with a dream on the playground at Media Elementary School as Pastor Bob and his wife, Monica, played with their young daughter. They looked across the street at the Media Theatre and dreamed about all that God might do through the local church in Delaware County, PA. It was at that time that God gave them the scripture Isaiah 43:18-20: I will even make a road in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. The beasts of the field will honor Me, the jackals and the ostriches, because I give water in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to My people, My chosen.

Pastor Bob, sensing that God had a call on his life, began leading a small Bible study in Ridley Park. Pastor Bob met Pastor Steve Smickley and shared his vision for planting a church in Delco. The church was organized, and Calvary’s first service was held in The Barnstormers Theater in Ridley Park.

By 1996, Calvary Chapel of Delaware County (ccdelco) had outgrown The Barnstormers facility and moved to The Christian Academy building in Media, PA.

In 1998, Pastor Bob retired from Boeing to pastor fulltime, and in 1999 Pastor Steve Smickley retired from PSE&G to pastor full-time.

Sunday services moved to downtown Media - the adults meeting in the historic Media Theatre and the children in the very elementary school Pastor Bob had originally dreamed. All other ministries continued to meet at the TCA facility.

On April 18, 2010, the doors were open to their spacious new facilities located in Chadds Ford and a new chapter in Calvary’s journey continues today with a thriving, vibrant community of faith.

The current 24 acre property has become a launching pad for vibrant ministry. In addition to regional conferences, outdoor sizzling summer services, and other ministry ventures Ccdelco became a “ justice church” in 2013, partnering with IJM to see human trafficking and bonded slavery come to an end around the world. Our annual “compassion and Justice weekends “ have become a hallmark of our church, and ignited the hearts of many to serve the most marginalized of our society.

In 2014 the church embarked on a 20/20 vision, which included the opening of a classical Christian School, extension campus, phase two building project and an increase partnership with one of our global partners- Nairobi chapel in Kenya.

In 2016 ccdelco completed phase two, a 15,000 square foot addition that included a chapel with three breakout rooms, new youth and multi use space, a bookstore, and the Table, a signature gathering space with full coffee bar and restaurant.

Calvary Chapel of Delaware County continues to offer Sizzling Summer outdoor services that have seen over 1,200 baptisms and continues to be of the great evangelistic outreaches the Lord has blessed us with.

Finally, of the five countries we are involved in globally, our flagship partner is Nairobi Chapel in Kenya. Having planted over 200 daughter churches in Kenya and around the world, we are partnering with this ministry in various ways including the venture of turning a former IDP camp into a fully functioning village with a local church, school, medical center, etc.

God has been gracious and we look forward to the coming years and all the He May lead us into.
