Job Description:

Position:  Nursery/Special Events Coordinator


Reports to:  Director of Children’s Ministries



Hours:  Approximately 25 hours per week


Position Focus: To develop and oversee safe and engaging environments for infants and toddlers that help them Connect with Christ.


The Vision: To develop Christ-centered kids who make a difference, by helping them Connect with Christ, Transform in Community, and Engage their World.


Key Relationships:

  • The Children’s Ministry Team and McKinney Staff
  • Volunteers and Paid Staff for Children’s Programming
  • Families who attend McKinney


The Position:

The Nursery/Special Events Coordinator is responsible for developing a safe and engaging experience for our youngest children, and also children through elementary ages during special events.  This person will need to demonstrate significant experience working with children and families, and also a demonstrated ability to recruit, train, mobilize, and shepherd both paid and volunteer teams to serve in this area.

Oversee Sunday morning ministry for children birth to 2 years:

  • Recruit, train and schedule volunteers and paid staff
  • Prepare curriculum and supplies for classrooms
  • Ensure a safe and inviting environment in Gadget Lab


Provide parents with parenting tools:

  • Assist in writing parenting articles for Everyday Parent
  • Provide resources for parents as needed


Assist with seasonal events for children, families, and volunteers:

  • Help with planning and implementation of Explosion (summer day camp for kids)
  • Assist with creative or practical elements for Huddle (volunteer appreciation)


Oversee children’s programming for special events:

  • Recruit, train and schedule volunteers and paid staff
  • Prepare curriculum and supplies for classrooms
  • Ensure a safe and inviting environment for kids and their families

Education and Experience:


  • College preferred (at least some theological training ideal)
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to interface with children, parents, volunteers and staff in a positive way
  • Solid organizational, computer, and administrative skills
