ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:

Opendoor Church began as a church plant in 1986 and is now one of the largest growing, nondenominational churches in Eastern North Carolina. From the beginning, Opendoor Church has focused on reaching out to those who do not know God personally and building relationships through Small Groups. Over the years, our methods to reach people have changed and adapted, but our purpose remains connected to the commission given by Jesus to reach people with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ - that they might know God, find freedom, and fulfill their purpose.

 

Opendoor Church exists to lead people to become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ who worship Him passionately and unashamedly by helping them know God, find freedom, and fulfill their purpose. The mission statement drives everything done at Opendoor Church! Every idea, program, and budget request is filtered through our mission statement. ABOUT THE POSITION:

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Small Groups Pastor ensures that the congregation is connecting with one another and building community through a strong, healthy, and growing Small Group ministry. This includes development and execution of an annual growth plan, Small Group leader identification and recruitment, Small Group curriculum development, and ongoing leadership and coaching of Small Group leaders.

 

ACTIVITIES

  • Annually assist in developing and executing a strategic plan with goals and SMART activities for Small Groups

  • Annually develop and execute Small Group budgets and review monthly with each Hub Director member

  • Implement regular team leader and Small Group participant recruitment methods and processes, ensuring a healthy Small Groups growth rate over time

  • Plan and execute regular Small Group Leader training and recognition events, ensuring the existence of a healthy body of Small Group leaders upon which to grow a strong Small Groups ministry

  • Identify, develop, and/or select Small Group curriculum and other Small Group study materials and tools

  • Attend different Small Groups throughout each semester

  • Attend bi-weekly ministry department meeting

                - Review strategic plan activities

                - Review monthly fiscal budget

                - Review weekly services

                - Review upcoming calendar and events

  • Attend monthly All Staff Meetings

  • Assist pastoral team in executing pastoral functions (weddings, funerals, etc.)

 

SKILLS

  • Loyal, dedicated, and able to commit long-term to the vision, strategy, and values of Opendoor Church

  • Expertise in church growth and keeping up-to-date with the most successful, current methodologies

  • Verifiable interpersonal skills, especially in empowering, motivating, delegating, coordinating, and evaluating Small Group Leaders to achieve the purpose and vision of the church

  • Excellent computer and communication skills

  • Able to analyze data, gather feedback, and execute a decision efficiently

  • A person who takes pride in excellence and is always willing to go the extra mile

  • Innovative, proactive, resourceful and an effective problem solver

  • Detail-oriented with strong administrative/organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously

  • Ability to manage, project, and steward budgets

  • Must be self-motivated and able to take a task or project through completion

  • Knowledge of strategic planning principles

  • Demonstrates a passion for Small Groups

  • Ability to use good judgment

  • Experience in conflict resolution

  • Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality as appropriate

EXPERIENCE

  • Requires a minimum of 5 to 7 years experience as a staff member in a ministry leadership capacity or equivalency in non-ministry position

  • Requires a minimum of 5 years experience in leading Small Groups

  • Preferably a licensed or ordained minister for 5 years
