Director of Worship Ministries Job Description


Hours Required:            25-30 hours/wk (variable times, includes in office, at home, evenings and weekends)




  • Reports to Executive Pastor
  • Oversee planning and coordination of all worship services
  • Communicate with pastors/guest preachers at least 4-6 weeks in advance to secure sermon topic/theme/scripture
  • Choose all worship music at least 2-4 weeks in advance (earlier when needing to coordinate with orchestra); coordinate music with sermon topic when possible; incorporate both hymns and contemporary worship songs
  • Oversee, schedule and coordinate all worship teams – communicate with volunteer musicians, supply them with all music needed, recruit new members/musicians when needed (currently 4 worship teams, with a total of 25-30 musicians)
  • Lead worship teams rehearsals (current rehearsal times are Friday evenings from 5:30-9pm)
  • Be available on Sunday mornings to troubleshoot issues, play an instrument/sing if needed
  • Recruit volunteers to perform special music during offering or other parts of the service as needed
  • Cooperate with the choir director and orchestra director on worship services where they participate (approx. once per month) – choose congregational songs that have orchestra parts and assist orchestra director in finding those parts
  • Communicate to the main office the information that needs to be on Sunday morning slides, then check/ensure the slides are accurate before Friday evening worship team rehearsal (alternatively prepare all slides yourself using ProPresenter program)
  • Create and maintain a schedule of volunteers to run the slides on Sunday morning; communicate with them in advance when they are scheduled, train them when necessary.
  • Work with the Sound Coordinator to ensure sound techs are scheduled every Sunday and every Friday rehearsal
  • Maintain accurate records and receipts of expenditures in the Worship ministry budget
  • Attend weekly church staff meetings (Tuesday mornings) and report on events in the worship ministry
  • Attend monthly Worship Committee meetings (variable times, evening)



  • Personal and vibrant faith in Jesus Christ and a calling to lead others to worship Him
  • Degree in Music or Worship
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Ability to lead a large number of volunteers effectively, with kindness and authority
  • Ability to read music, minimally arrange or transpose when necessary, know what is “singable” for a congregation, arrange song sets in a worshipful, congregation-centered style (not solo/concert style)
  • Comfortable communicating in person, email, phone with all different personality types; able to resolve personality issues/disagreements in a God-honoring way
  • Knowledge of ProPresenter software is beneficial
