Job Description:

Overall Responsibility:  The Director of Student Ministry will pastor the IMPACT High School and Junior High students at Turning Point Church through weekly services, small groups, leadership development, and ministry opportunities to include but not limited to, social outings, missions, outreach, camps, conferences, and retreats.

 

Responsibilities by Function

 

Weekly Services:

  • Prepare and develop sermons and message series to communicate God’s heart to our students
  • Lead and design fun, exciting, spirit filled worship experiences for teens
  • Manage and direct staff through planning and executing every aspect of weekly services. (Including creative elements such as video and graphics, room & stage preparation, sound & lighting, etc.)
  • Oversee volunteer teams for greeting, security, prayer, and hospitality
  • Provide direction and oversight for the student worship/creative teams in regard to service planning
  • Use information from connection cards to pinpoint ministry and prayer needs.
  • Follow-up ministry and prayer needs with one-on-one meetings with students and/or parents

 

Retreat & Event Coordination and Execution:

  • Create, plan, promote, and execute 2-4 yearly retreats and multiple events
  • Administrate all aspects of the retreat/events (including production cost, location, transportation, food, lodging, t-shirts, etc.)
  • Make sure each retreat/event remains in budget

 

Student and Parent Relationship Development:

  • Communicate vision for the purpose and need for a small group system
  • Develop student disciples
  • Attract and train leaders who have a heart for students and a desire to lead a small group
  • Work with leaders to develop curriculum and flow for their small group
  • Assist leaders with a time and place that their small group will meet
  • Create, plan, promote, and execute Rally Day so that small groups will have the best opportunity to attract students
  • Coordinate with small group section leaders to keep up communication throughout the semester
  • Provide ongoing leadership training for small group leaders
  • Assist parents in developing their child’s personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Clearly communicate with parents in events, vision and explicit topical messages
  • Encourage them in participating in the support and mission of IMPACT
  • Always honor the authority that parent(s) have with their child/children and always be honest with them concerning their child/children. You and the parents are on the same team

 

Staff and Dream Team Leadership:

  • Identify, lead and develop teams (adult leaders and student leaders)
  • Oversee staff to ensure all who express interest is connected to an area they are gifted in and passionate about
  • Provide orientations so that interested members have a door into leadership
  • Meet with applicants one on one and make sure they are plugged into the area of their gifting
  • Maintain communication and relationship with student leaders
  • Direct the work of, and provide oversight to Student Coordinator(s) and other volunteer dream team members/staff

  • Commitment to the House and the mission
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated leadership and vision in managing staff groups and major projects or initiatives
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative management style.
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace
  • Excels at operating in a fast pace, community environment
  • Excellent people manager, open to direction and collaborative work style and commitment to get the job done
  • Demonstrated skill in leadership, with a solid work ethic, possessing a passion for teaching students about God and the ability to administrate as a department head
  • A working knowledge of creative programming related to student programs and special events is a real plus

 

 

Experience and Education Required:

  • Experience working with middle and high school students (secular or on church staff)
  • Exposure to and passion for the vision of Turning Point Church
  • This position requires 3 to 5 years’ experience in a student ministry leadership capacity, or comparable work and/or volunteer experience
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Biblical studies or related field is desired, however, demonstrated ministry experience, may be substituted
