Job Description:

The role of the Associate Pastor at New Life Church  is to oversee the connection and growth of the body of New Life Church under the direction and leadership of the Lead Pastor.  This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and vision of New Life Church and the ability to work as a team with the staff in all areas of ministry.  The Associate Pastor will lead guests to a genuine sense of belonging, involvement and growth at New Life and is charged with helping individuals to connect in meaningful ways within our church body.   The Associate Pastor’s responsibilities will include equipping and connecting people in the following manner:

 

  • Assimilation: Responsible for creating ways for new guests to get plugged into ministry.

    • Ensure that both new and regular attendees are finding their place of connection at New Life, with a goal that each individual is connecting (small groups), growing (Bible Study/Sunday worship), and serving (serving within the local church).

    • Follow up with visitors and find new ways to connect with them.

    • Follow up with those in our body that are inconsistent to help find connection.

    • Visit those who are sick or in the hospital as requested by elders or Lead Pastor.

  • Small Groups: Oversee and execute small group ministry to help move people from visiting to belonging.

    • Develop a comprehensive strategy and structure allowing for the continued growth of individual small group and Bible studies.

    • Provide ongoing training for small group/Bible study leaders.

    • Overseeing evaluation and approval of study materials

    • Design and develop process of connecting people into and maintaining groups

  • Connecting through Outreach in the Community: Join the vision of NLC by working with current outreach opportunities in various ministries at NLC as well as look for new opportunities to fit the vision.

    • Work with leadership team in planning outreach opportunities in order to connect with people in our community.

    • Maintain and cultivate relationships with community ministries in order to better connect the people at New Life into community ministry.

  • Biblical Counseling: Join the Biblical Counseling team to lead people to Christ in all areas of their life.

    • Pursue certification through the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors.

    • Join the Biblical Counseling team vision and provide counseling services as requested by the head of the New Life Biblical Counseling Team.

  • Facilitate the 6th-12th grade Youth Group:   Lead a team of volunteers to plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry that grows our young people in their faith and understanding of their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

    • Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach.

    • Mentor youth in developing their leadership skills.

    • Recruit and train volunteers who work with youth in all aspects of youth ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios.

    • Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, camps and resources that relate to youth and youth ministries.

    • Implement a weekly youth group for students 6th-12th grade, growing the youth through consistent Biblically based teaching.

    • Meet with elders to determine curriculum for youth group.

 

Additional Responsibilities,  Expectations and Requirements:

  • The principle Christian characteristics of a ‘servant-leader’ found in I Timothy 3:1-13 should be evident

  • Passion for ministering to others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, encouraging growth and development of devoted followers of Christ

  • Agree and are committed to the values and statement of faith of NLC

  • Support the church leadership and staff

  • Ability to work as a team with leadership and staff and submit as necessary

  • Ability to prepare a sermon and preach when called upon by the lead pastor and/or elders.

  • Exceptional people skills

  • Administrative/organizational abilities

  • Ability to lead and manage individuals as well as groups

  • Meet weekly with the Lead Pastor and elders

  • Meet monthly with counseling team.

  • Be faithful in church attendance, including Sunday Worship(both services)

  • Participate in the life of the church

  • Be a generous giver and regular tither

  • Stay current with ministry practices

  • Any other responsibility or duty as assigned by the lead pastor

 

To Whom Responsible:

The Associate Pastor is directly responsible to the Lead Pastor.  Secondarily, they are responsible to the Elders of New Life in regards to ministry, and financially responsible to the Servants Council of New Life.

 

Time Commitment:

This is a full time, salaried position with a minimum of 40 hours/week required.  Defined office hours will be set and followed, with the remaining hours flexible as needed.
