Job Description:

Together with the Lead Pastor, leadership ministry teams, and the Church Council, the Associate Pastor will be
responsible for seeing that progress is made toward the mission of Immanuel Lutheran Church. The Associate
Pastor will display a boldness for Christ and a depth of biblical knowledge that serves our church family. This
person will have a heart that models that of Jesus. In support of the Lead Pastor, this person will work to ensure
that Immanuel is well-led, cared for, and protected as portrayed in Acts 20:28 and I Peter 5:1-4.

One primary responsibility of the Associate Pastor will be to serve as the principal leader and overseer of
Immanuel’s youth and family ministries. As such, this person will partner with staff and congregational members
to build a ministry that supports Christian growth, with a specific focus on the strengthening of Immanuel’s
youth and their families.


It is expected that the Associate Pastor will:
Administration:

  •  Support and be accountable to the Lead Pastor
  •  Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding Immanuel
  • Maintain strong working relationships with ministry leadership teams, staff, and the Church Council
  •  Have oversight and authority for the screening, recruiting, and training of volunteers for youth and family ministry, and for the scheduling of youth events

Worship:

  • Preach, teach, and administer the sacraments
  • Preside at worship services, weddings, and funerals, as coordinated by the Lead Pastor
  •  Bring to worship a focus on youth involvement, and attention to meeting the worship needs/interests of older youth

Mission:

  • Research, review, approve curriculum, and implement plans for youth ministries and programs, including Sunday School, Trinity, Middle and High School Youth Groups, Confirmation, Rally Sunday, and Day Camp
  •  Lead and coordinate the youth confirmation program
  • Coordinate and advise the Board of Education and Youth Board
  • Provide training and equip members to build youth ministry, mission projects and trips, and oversee budget and fundraising efforts
  •  Build relationships and facilitate communication with youth and their families to encourage awareness and participation
  • Recruit members and lay leaders of youth, family, and outreach ministry teams and projects
  •  Coach and coordinate the training and conduct of lay leaders of youth, family, and outreach programs and projects of Immanuel
