About the Position:

We are looking for an experienced and qualified individual to join the staff as the Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries. This person would provide leadership to carry the mission and vision of First Presbyterian Church to youth in grades 6-12 and to the young adult community. While seeking to foster the faith of youth and young adults, this person will also seek ways to integrate the youth and young adults into the ministries of the whole church. This position is mission-oriented, seeking ways to connect with young adults who do not identify with this or any church. The ideal candidate will be able to create, direct, and administer dynamic, spiritually relevant programs while cultivating relationships and community. Our candidate will be enthusiastic about developing the faith of our youth and young adults. Contagious energy, high emotional intelligence, and a genuine love for Jesus are all musts!

 

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred
  • Minimum three years experience leading a youth ministry program, preferably in a large church or similar organization
  • Successful leadership experience in vision setting, building community, and interpersonal relationships
  • Loves people and especially youth!
  • Passion for developing programming that facilitates the faith development of youth and young adults
  • Ability to plan, implement, and measure the results of ministry programs and events
  • Willingness to lead with a professional and positive team spirit that equips and supports volunteers
  • Skilled in identifying, recruiting, and empowering youth leaders
  • Proactive engagement with youth and young adults in their work and school contexts
  • Effectively utilize social media, email, phone, and face-to-face capabilities with all people involved
  • Engage interpersonally with the many challenges youth face and maintain healthy emotional boundaries
  • Understanding of current youth culture and an ability to relate to youth in their context

 

Responsibilities/Tasks: 

  • Programmatic oversight:
    Promote engagement in worship and connections on Sunday mornings
    Organize and lead youth groups for middle school and senior high students
    Plan and lead mission trips for youth groups
    Facilitate monthly Pub Theology connection time for young adults
    Create and plan activities and retreats throughout the year
    Direct the curriculum for Confirmation class
    Organize and shape opportunities for missional living and community service
    Develop new ministries that engage the changing needs of youth and young adults
  • Collaborate with the Children’s Ministry Director to ensure children’s seamless transition for students entering middle school programming
  • Continue to build opportunities for youth and young adults to be connected to the whole church body
  • Implement child protection policies
  • Manage program budget and mission fundraising initiatives throughout the fiscal year
  • Establish and build relationships with our college students
  • Coordinate calendar, plans, and program needs with church staff and administration
  • Create youth and parent education opportunities
  • Staff liaison to the Youth Ministries Committee
