Job Description:
Primary Task as Youth Pastor:

To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry (in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, missions and outreach) while serving as a spiritual leader and role model.

There shall be a comprehensive approach to the development and implementation of the youth ministry at all levels and in all ministry areas of FBCU. This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding of the primary task of youth ministry to:

  • Love youth where they are

  • Encourage youth in developing their relationship with God

  • Provide them with opportunities for nurture and growth

  • Challenge them to respond to God's call to serve in their church, community, and the world



  • Be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns, and needs of the youth ministry.

  • Help plan, develop, and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach.

  • Mentor youth in developing their leadership skills.

  • Be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities.

  • Recruit and train volunteers who work with youth in all aspects of youth ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios.

  • Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to youth and youth ministries.

  • Coordinate Sunday School curriculum for youth (grades 6-12) and recruit qualified teachers.

  • Counsel students and parents beyond the classroom.

  • Develop a strategic youth ministry outreach plan.

  • Manage the youth ministry budget.

  • Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (Social Media, Email, Text Messages, Website, Bulletin, Handouts, etc.). Ensure communication remains consistent with church staff and leadership, parents, and the congregation as a whole.

  • Make yourself available to students in a variety of ways {i.e. lunch, attendance at extracurricular activities, visitation, times of crisis, etc.).

  • Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality.

  • Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings.

  • Have a vision for youth ministry, and the ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement a youth ministry within the parameters of the First Baptist Church of Umatilla.




1. Must fully support our church's doctrinal statement “Baptist Faith and Message 2000” and our “Membership Covenant”


2. Bachelor Degree preferred, Bible College or Seminary Studies are strongly preferred (can be in the process)

3.. At least 3 years experience leading a large youth group (75+ students) strongly preferred. Such experience should include:

  • Taking 50+ students to youth camps
  • Managing and encouraging a large team of adult leaders

4. Experience nurturing an effective and engaged Student Leadership Team


5. Must be relational with students, adult leaders and parents


6. Humble confidence


7. Effective and open communicator


8. Heart for discipleship


9. Skill in administration


10. Show the ability to creatively reach youth


11. Exemplifies an evangelistic lifestyle and demonstrates a passion for the Gospel of Christ


12. Effective in strategic planning and budgeting for overall ministry


13. Healthy work ethic with the ability to plan, organize and execute events
