Job Description:

Director of Student Ministries

Coker United Methodist Church, in San Antonio, Texas is accepting applications for a full-time Director of Student Ministries who will lead programs for 6th-12th grade students.  Coker is seeking an applicant that can move the church into new areas of holistic family ministry.  Current participation includes 50-60 youth who gather weekly for Bible Study and Sunday School.  The selected applicant will build disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to student ministry in areas of worship, discipleship, mission, and outreach. 


Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Establish a caring relationship with individual students and their parents offering compassionate friendship and hospitality as illustrated in the life of Jesus Christ
  • Oversee and approve all curriculum, Bible Study and program materials used in Student Ministries
  • Provide visioning and goal setting for the ministry
  • Work within and manage an already established budget
  • Coordinate/lead small group Bible studies weekly for middle school and high school
  • Plan and coordinate mission opportunities at both the local and international level
  • Seek to broaden the base of leadership within the youth by coordinating the Student Ministries Committee and leadership training for youth
  • Interview, coordinate, and oversee training of all volunteers for Sunday school, small groups, Bible study, and Confirmation through the Rio Texas Conference Safe Gatherings Training program
  • Create and develop family programming to engage and educate parents
  • Be an integral part of a ministry team that works closely together to support one another in all areas of ministry
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with youth, preferably in a Christian setting

  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills
  • Creative and willing to try new ideas

Working Conditions:

  • Irregular schedule, evenings and weekend hours required
  • Travel for mission trips, retreats, and overnight functions
  • Attend extracurricular activities students are involved in such as band, sports, theater, etc.
  • Requires walking, standing, and lifting objects up to 40 pounds

Salary Range: $54,000-$58,000
