Position:  Tech Manager

Reports to:  Worship Media Director


Position Focus: This part-time position will support the weekend services, church ministries and outside events with equipping, maintaining, troubleshooting and running the various audio, video and lighting (AVL) systems throughout the building.

The Position:

The Tech Manager is responsible for implementing the vision of McKinney Church in partnership with the Media and Creative Teams.  This position will work closely with the Worship Media Director to plan, and then accomplish, technical needs for weekend services, new series and creative elements. They will maintain a request system and communicate with various pastors and staff regarding tech needs and issues throughout the building and will work various events as assigned.

Maintain a level of excellence across the board as it relates to AVL throughout the church building.


Weekend Services:

  • Work with the Worship Media Director and volunteer Media Team to prepare for and execute the weekend services.
  • Keep things clean and tidy. Maintain a clean stage, free of clutter & tangled cables. Keep all tech storage areas and off-stage wings clean and organized. Keep FOH and Media Booth organized and clean.
  • Plan, install, build, troubleshoot & maintain technical elements that are needed for a new stage set, creative elements & new projects.
  • Maintain & troubleshoot current equipment in Auditorium & Media Booth.
  • Additional opportunities depending on skillset: program lighting, program visuals/LED screens.


Ministry Support & Request System:

  • Be proactive in maintaining and equipping the various ministries in regard to AVL.
  • Create and maintain a system for receiving tech maintenance requests from the various ministries and venues throughout our building.
  • Be responsive and clearly communicate with the ministry on each request received.
  • Prioritize requests as needed and execute in a timely manner.


Ministry & Outside Events:

  • Prep & Run AVL for the various outside (non-McKinney Church ministry) events we have throughout the year (roughly 100 hours a year): seminars, conferences, graduations, theatrical performances, etc.
  • Prep & Run AVL for recurring and non-recurring McKinney ministry (and related) events (roughly 100 hours a year): youth and children’s conferences, women’s events, weddings, funerals, etc.
  • Remain flexible to accommodate for these hours, most of them fall on evenings or weekends.
  • Recruit, train, equip & schedule volunteers (or contract AVL) as needed for events requiring more than one person, or events that you are unable to work.

Experience & Skillsets:

  • Formal education is not a determining factor.
  • Experience with digital audio systems, rigging, line arrays, personal in-ear monitoring
  • Experience and understanding of lighting systems, DMX, LED & conventional fixtures, moving head fixtures
  • Experience with video systems, projection, switchers, cameras
  • BONUS: experience with LED video screens, image mapping, live streaming/broadcast/television.
