Reports to: Lead Pastor


Mission: The mission of SunHills is to lead people in finding joy in Jesus by making and maturing disciples of Jesus!


Job Goal: Working towards the advancement of this mission, our Worship Pastor is responsible for overseeing and leading the Worship Ministry at SunHills, with the role of cultivating a genuine culture of worship at SunHills that develops and expresses joy in Jesus!

Essential Functions

  • Ministers to the people of SunHills in a pastoral and relational capacity

  • Pastor, coach, care for, and develop the Worship and Tech Teams, building a sense of team and unity within the worship ministry

  • Cultivate a culture of worship which develops and expresses joy in Jesus!

  • Develop and instill worship ministry values of gospel-centered, community-oriented, sincere, passionate, and Spirit-led, while pursuing excellence

  • Teaching God’s word through song, spirit, and testimony

  • Coordinates worship with Lead Pastor in shaping Sunday services, worship nights, and additional services and events

  • Recruit, retain, and invest in a team of qualified musicians and technical volunteers

  • Develop and encourage other worship leaders – a large measure of success will be in the development of others!

  • Dynamic, innovative, and naturally creative in engaging week-to-week.

  • Oversees worship and ministry events, including venue preparation

  • Oversees communications for Worship team

  • Oversees key selection and music printing for rehearsals

  • Oversees the proper functioning of all systems necessary for worship environments, including audio, lighting, video, and other media systems

  • Manages and participates in auditions of musicians and technical staff

  • Engage collaboratively with other elements of creative planning and the implementation of creative ideas

  • Manages annual budget for worship ministries

  • Manages scheduling and service order


Non-Essential Functions

  • Other duties as required


Education and Experience (Required)

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • At least five years of experience leading worship teams and volunteer oversight


Licenses, Certifications (Preferred)

  • Seminary degree

  • Licensure or ordination


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required)

  • Strong understanding of the Bible and the Gospel

  • Strong teaching skills

  • Strong management and organizational skills

  • Experience with worship team management  

  • Experience in hiring, personnel management, and conflict management

  • Knowledge of worship songs, music theory, and congregational talents and gifts

  • Strong understanding of and competence with sound, lighting, and media equipment

  • Experience with and skills in the following softwares: ProPresenter, Planning Center, Google softwares, Apple proficient

  • Highly trained and technically competent with various worship music styles

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to seek alternatives, new ideas, and/or approaches to problems, and develop and implement solutions

  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team

  • Strong oral and written communication, as well as presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with both music and technical volunteers

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels both inside and outside of the organization

  • Strong organization skills with the ability to effectively prioritize multiple tasks and meet agreed-on deadlines

  • Ability to implement a consistent worship ministry, both spiritual and musical

  • Ability to treat confidential information with appropriate discretion
