Snapshot:

Size: 4500

Denomination: Evangelical

Location: Eden Prairie (Minneapolis), MN

About the Organization:

Wooddale Church (WC) is an interdenominational, evangelical Christian multi-site church located in the thriving and prolific suburb of Eden Prairie, Minnesota that is forward-looking, outward-focused, and God-centered. Wooddale is a multi-generational community committed to discipleship and reaching the communities of their campuses.

In 1943, a few college students and adults formally turned a Bible study into a non-denominational church called the Wayside Chapel in Richfield, MN. In 1949, Wayside Chapel joined the Minnesota Baptist Conference and changed its name to Wooddale Baptist Church. In 1977, Wooddale turned their attention to planning for growth by defining their philosophy and direction, and in 1981, the church purchased the 32 acres of undeveloped land in Eden Prairie and became Wooddale Church. In 1990, the 2,000-seat worship center was built with a steeple designed as a beacon of hope for the passerby, and the next year, Wooddale was planted, just ahead of the church adopting its purpose statement in 1993 – “To honor God by making more disciples for Jesus Christ.” Several more highlights continued through the years, such as the Faith Matters radio broadcast in 1997, the streaming of live worship in 2006, the launch of The Gathering (alternative worship style) in 2007, and the opening of a multi-site campus in Edina in 2008.

Wooddale’s main campus of 32 acres in Eden Prairie includes a 2,000-seat worship center and a “Great Room” that seats an additional 600. A second campus in Edina provides a more intimate setting and is known as the “family campus”, generally a younger, family-friendly community reaching the historic, upscale Minneapolis suburb.

Wooddale lives by six values that help them honor God by making more disciples for Jesus Christ: to be God-centered, Bible-based, outreach-oriented, disciple-making, Kingdom-building, and future-looking. WC is very international in their worship design and offers multiple styles to effectively minister to different groups and remain culturally sensitive to the audience they are reaching. WC is affiliated with both Converge Worldwide and the 4Cs (Conservative Congregational Christian Conference).

When people describe Wooddale Church, the words “friendly” and “excellent” are often used. In worship, ministries, and outreach, WC people give their whole hearts to the effort. The body strives to give God their best and to provide a bridge into the community for visitors. For example, their 12 Christmas Eve services are attended by an average of 10,000 people every year, which gives an enormous opportunity to draw people into community and relationship.

Wooddale Church is known as a welcoming, safe place for all to experience God. WC works to break down the barriers that would prevent someone from hearing the Good News of Jesus Christ. WC is also known as being creative and innovative and is not afraid to take risks to reach more people.

The church launched Vision ’22 in 2015 to impart the hope of the gospel to 700,000 people here, near, and far and to provide a clear pathway toward spiritual maturity and to date have reached over 60% of this goal through local, regional and world wide efforts.

Consistent with the goals of Vision ’22, a third campus was introduced in 2016 in the urban, Loring Park neighborhood of Minneapolis. Located in historic Music Box Theatre, this site offers a unique Sunday worship experience and is host to many other outreach events.

As part of Vision ’22 in 2016 the Eden Prairie campus invested over $6mm renovating the award winning children’s ministry wing designed by the architect that designed the Minneapolis Children’s Museum. Additionally, Lydia’s Coffeehouse opened its doors at the Eden Prairie campus providing a comfortable gathering place to reach and serve the surrounding community.

About the Position:

The Technical Arts Director oversees the tech department, managing paid tech sta? and 100+ production volunteers. The Technical Arts Director needs to see tech as a ministry and every opportunity to run equipment as an opportunity to bring someone along and advance our mission of making disciples. WC draws people from a 15-20 minute radius of communities such as: Eden Prairie, Bloomington, Minnetonka, Hopkins, Minneapolis, and Edina.

Eden Prairie is on the brink of a dramatic change as the United Health Group broke ground in 2012 with a 72-acre, $200 million corporate campus that is within walking distance from Wooddale’s Eden Prairie campus. The campus will house 6,700 employees over the next five years and Wooddale has teams formed to consider how to meet the needs of these new residents by reaching out to employees with creative ways to provide childcare and activities for young families.
