Director of Children's Ministry Job Description

1. Purpose 


The Director of Children's Ministry shall be responsible for the oversight of children's programs, birth through sixth grade.  The primary role will be to recruit, train, and develop leaders who will intentionally help to produce committed disciples of Christ. This position begins as part-time to become full time, as the job grows.


2. Qualifications 

A. Prefer degree in Christian Education or Christian Leadership with a

    focus on Children’s Ministry.

B. One to three years experience in Children’s Ministry.

C. Become a member of Grace Church.

D. Be approved by the elder board.

E. Possess strong interpersonal skills, administrative and coordination

    gifts, creativity, and have a heart for children.

F. Work well with church staff.


3. Accountabilit

A. The Director of Children's Ministry shall be directly accountable to the Senior

     Pastor and Elders.

B. The Director of Children's Ministry shall also be a team player, and will work

     in cooperation with other Pastoral staff and Ministry leaders within the


C. The Director of Children's Ministry shall serve as the point-leader for the

     Children's Ministry Team.

D. The Director of Children's Ministry shall receive an annual review in January,

     from the Senior Pastor and Elders. 


4. Responsibilities 

A. Shall be responsible for recruiting, training and development of adult leaders

     who have a passion for shepherding and discipling children.

B. Shall be the point-leader of the Children's Ministry Team, responsible to

     provide direction, spiritual oversight, vision, strategic development, and

     coaching for Ministry Team members.

C. Shall be responsible to work with the Children's Ministry Team in the

     development of a unified strategic plan that includes the following key areas:

     clearly defined values, mission statement, leadership development,

     evangelism, disciple making, worship, systematic Bible teaching, personal

     accountability and ongoing evaluation.

D. Oversee the development and daily implementation of the Children's Ministry


E. Provide 'hands-on' ministry modeling for adult leaders.

F. Have direct oversight for the following key areas of ministry:  Children's

    Sunday School, Midweek Discipleship, Nursery, Summer Programs (Summer

     Spectacular, Day Camp), and Special Events (Easter, Fall Family Festival,


G. Nursery Coordinator reports directly to the Children’s Ministry Director.

H. Oversee leadership selection and training process, maintaining a high standard

     of excellence in those chosen for leadership.  Perform background checks on

     all staff.

I. Oversee the development of children's music and worship.

J. Serve as a liaison with Pastoral Staff and Ministry leaders to ensure that

    children are integrated into all church ministries as much as possible.

K. Participate fully as a member of the Pastoral and Ministry staff.

L. Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Senior Pastor or needed by

    other church programs or activities.
