Overall Objective: Ephesians 4:11-13, The Associate Pastor of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church (SOTH) is called to train and lead people to achieve greater spiritual maturity, to prepare them for ministry (works of Service) in accordance
with Lutheran doctrine, and to lead them to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Shepherd of the Hills is looking for an Associate Pastor to Lead and deliver services/sermons covering one third of the calendar year. And, assist in the coordination of all worship service series and themes with Senior Pastor and coordinate messages to
In coordination with Senior Pastor, the Associate Pastor will oversee the ‘front end’ ministries of the church. The Associate Pastors will focus on outreach and worship, and offer ideas for worship services that resonate with the younger generations. Responsibilities
will include connecting with the sick and homebound, and disconnected through use of the visitation team, and by self when necessary. Associate Pastor should be comfortable leading our prayer ministry, and work closely with Outreach and Worship type committees.
Associate Pastor will occasionally assist leading Adult Ed courses.
The Associate Pastor is expected, as appropriate and as able, to perform baptisms, funerals, and weddings for congregation members when requested. This includes pre-marital counseling of couples and baptism orientation for new parents.
The Associate Pastor is expected to engage with the Senior Pastor to facilitate church leadership in discerning God’s vision for SOTH and developing a consistent message to communicate to members and potential new members. The Associate Pastor will be an
active member of the Council of Shepherds, and will be involved as necessary in planning, budgeting and other administrative activities that are necessary in all churches.
Associate Pastor shall be up on current and innovative practices to engage in effective Evangelism, Teaching, and communications, and to assist when needed with high school ministries.
Qualifications: It is expected that the Associate Pastor meet the qualifications for Elder found in 1 Timothy, have Masters of Divinity degree from accredited theological school, exhibit knowledge of and acceptance of Lutheran
Confessional writings, possess and be able to demonstrate strong management, leadership and supervisory skills, display the ability to communicate orally that would lead to expository preaching and biblical shepherding. Note: A certified call is preferred,

Personal expectations: SOTH expects Associate pastor to: be an example of Christian living and holiness, maintain a systematic and devotional life, seeking to live in active communion with Christ, be engaged in active prayer for
the congregation, world and mission of the church, and to demonstrate the ability to maintain a healthy balance between SOTH expectations and family expectations.
