Youth Ministry Coordinator

The Youth Ministry Coordinator is a part-time salaried position that serves to connect and nurture unchurched
and churched students (grades 6-12) with the life and ministries of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church for
the expressed purpose of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. This is a teaching
and support position that facilitates biblically sound and interactive learning opportunities that help to develop
youth from learners into ministry leaders. This position engages and collaborates with multiple ministries within
the church and with leaders in the wider community.
o Support and coordinate an ever-growing team of intergenerational youth and adult leadership
teams to do the work of ministry together.
o Foster a welcoming environment while encouraging churched and unchurched students to
connect with the life and ministries of Rolling Plains United Methodist Church.
o Oversee the coordination and teaching of the Orange Curriculum for middle and high school
o Champion the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Rolling Plains Church, and fully integrate
them into all program, instructional, and missional objectives.
o Communicate and coordinate youth ministry events through various media platforms.
o Empower and equip our youth to grow in their passion and faith as devoted disciples of Jesus
Christ, and to take responsibility for their own spiritual lives.
o Actively participate in the ongoing program, outreach, and ministry activities of Rolling Plains
United Methodist Church.
o Work with the Rolling Plains Youth Ministry Council to develop and implement youth ministry
goals and activities that equip and empower middle and high school students to develop their
faith and build spiritual confidence to become fully devoted disciples of Jesus Christ.
o Partner with parents, guardians, pastors, and other ministry leaders on annual Confirmation
Classes, preparations for baptism, and membership.
o Implement developed plans to increase and sustain parent/guardian/youth regular communication
o Create ongoing opportunities to connect parents, students, adult mentors, and volunteers with
Small groups; social media, etc.
o Coordinate and facilitate weekly programs that provide opportunities for teaching, fellowship,
prayer, and spiritual gift formation.
o Establish relationships with other Christian youth ministries within the area.
o Lead and engage youth, team leaders, and parents/guardians in specific and strategic missional
outreach activities that connect the church to the community.
o Build and establish relationships with students and faculty of area local schools – Maysville,
Foxfire, Philo, Lower Putnam Area, etc., attending school lunches, athletic games, musicals, etc.
o Coordinate opportunities for youth to participate and serve in the community.
o Engage youth and adult chaperones in at least one significant mission trip per year.
Other duties may evolve through program growth and development.

EDUCATIONAL & WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Post-secondary religious/theology education or training; or,
2-3years experience working as a paid or volunteer youth ministry coordinator; or
similar experience teaching youth or student ministry.

• Financial stewardship of practicing the Biblical Tithe.

The Youth Ministries Coordinator position shall possess the following core competencies:
• INITIATIVE: Proven ability to work independently and interdependently (team player).
Demonstrate self-motivation, follow through and task completion.
• ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS: Proven ability to organize people and events to complete ministry
objectives. Ability to demonstrate and articulate use of Prioritization Tools relative to planning,
execution, and evaluation of program goals.
• RELATIONSHIP BUILDING: Verifiable strong interpersonal skills that include: compassion, sensitivity,
conflict management, and recognition of non-verbal indicators. Understanding teen as well as parent/teen

(will require a thorough knowledge of Safe Sanctuaries policies and procedures after hire).
• TRUST: Develop and maintain trusting relationships as well as being trustworthy. Proven ability to
maintain and handle confidences and confidential matters.

The Youth Ministry Coordinator position reports to the Director of Family Ministries, and is amenable to
an established Youth Ministry Council within the Church, and to our Staff Parish Relations Committee per the
Discipline of the United Methodist Church. Formal Performance reviews will take place yearly, supplemented
with quarterly coaching to clarify, assess, and evaluate goals and develop future expectations.
Team Relationships – This is a team position that interacts with Children & Family Ministries, Adult Discipleship,
Missions, Outreach, and other ministries. The duties of this position shall be carried out in a cooperative and helpful
manner relative to other staff of the Church and relative to members, constituents and visitors of Rolling Plains.
Accountability – Developing and maintaining a regular presence during core office hours is vital to our team ministry
chemistry. This part-time position consists of daytime, evening, and weekend work, flexibility in office hours will vary
according to planned programs and activities. Communication of scheduled time away from the office is expected.
Work Hours – Church office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. A minimum of 25-30 work hours
per week is expected. Some days/weeks may require additional hours. Regular attendance in Sunday Worship, monthly
All-Staff meetings, Youth Ministry Council meetings, and scheduled Annual Retreats are required.
Work/Life Balance – Expected practice of self-care through personal daily devotion and prayer, regular worship
attendance, commitment to a Life Group, and scheduling regular days off.
