Job Description:

We are seeking a highly creative, highly productive graphic designer to add to our Communications Team. This person should have outstanding design skills and a heart for the ministry of Valley Church.


ROLE:  The Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager is…

  • Creative Artist: Creates digital and print graphic content for sermon series, ministry promotion, events, website, social media, marketing pieces, etc.

  • Graphic Software Specialist: Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Innovative Idea Generator: Works with the Communications Team to frequently brainstorm and develop ideas to continually improve how we communicate.

  • Copywriter: Writes and edits a variety of marketing materials for distribution to an internal or external audience.

  • Organized and Efficient: Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously and manage ongoing communication with ministry leaders for these projects.

  • DNA Carrier:  Completely embraces and contagiously communicates the Valley Church DNA.  

  • Communications Expert:  Proficient in all forms of communication (social media, copywriting, web, print, email, etc.) to both church and community audiences.  Able to understand communications strategy and use design to accomplish goals.  

  • Eager Learner: Constantly growing and developing in new skills and technology. Not afraid to try to new things. Can take direction and feedback well.


PERSONALLY:  The Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager is . . .

  • Co-laborer: Comes alongside the Communications Team and ministry leaders to help them achieve the mission-aligned goals of our church.

  • Healthy at home: No concerns related to spiritual or emotional health issues within his or her family.

  • Time manager: Does not require external systems to prioritize; is intrinsically motivated.

  • Flexible: Understands the complexity of working with a variety of staff and perspectives, and collaboratively works with patience, flexibility, and grace.

NOT:  The Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager is NOT. . .

  • Every Team’s Assistant: Reports and works directly with the Communications Team. Projects and workload comes directly from the Director of Strategic Communications.

  • Sensitive to Design Critiques: Able to adapt and change designs to better achieve the overall project goals while not taking design tweaks personally.


JOB:  The Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager . . .

  • Creates Visually Stunning Design. Uses design skills to solve problems with creative and functional design pieces. Combines strategy with creativity to accomplish our communications and ministry goals.

  • Leads and Educates.  Advocates for excellence across all designs used throughout the church. Helps ministry leaders effectively implement our branding guidelines and provides them with materials to be successful. Pushes Valley Church forward visually in a way that makes us all better.

  • Produces Great Content.  Creates and publishes engaging social media and web content combining skills in design and online communications.

  • Is Accessible:  Meets with various staff to discuss project needs and gain a better understand of the purpose and strategy of specific design projects.

  • Equips and Mobilizes: Recruits and leads a team of volunteers who are able to maximize our efforts across social media and design.

  • Communicates:  Maintains an open line of communication with ministry leaders during projects and frequently dialogues with the Director of Strategic Communication.

Relationships of the Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager include…

  • Serves: Valley Church ministry leaders and other members as directed.

  • Reports: To the Director of Strategic Communications.

  • Supports: The Communications Team and other ministry leaders.

  • Leads: Self; and then any staff or volunteers as directed.

Experience of the Graphic Designer/Social Media Manager should be…

  • Undergraduate degree in related field or 2+ years of relevant digital design experience.

  • Working in a collaborative team environment.

  • Experience managing and updating a variety of social media platforms.

  • Ministry experience is preferred.

  • Copywriting, creative writing or blogging experience is preferred.

  • Experience in web development, online marketing or motion graphics is a plus.
