The Senior Pastor is to be the shepherd of the church. He is responsible to the Lord and the church to primarily proclaim the gospel and teach the Bible. He is to use his skills in administrative leadership for engaging in pastoral care ministries to meet
the needs of persons in the church and in the community, and to act as the chief administrator of the ministerial and vocational staff. He will exemplify a Godly character, is compassionate in recognizing and meeting the needs of others, and demonstrates a
high level of competence.
He will be called by the Holy Spirit and confirmed by a body of believers through ordination. (Acts 20:28, Titus 1:5, l Timothy 3:1)
He will have a degree from an accredited university; however, years of experience in ministry can be substituted. Additional degrees will be given consideration.
Plan and conduct worship services with coordination of the staff; prepare and deliver sermons and lead in observance of the church ordinances.
Provide administrative leadership for the total church program including the supervision and annual evaluations of staff members.
Equip, educate, and edify the church as mandated in Ephesians 4:11-13.
Shepherd the flock and ensure the church is well led, cared for, and protected.
Perform weddings, and conduct funerals as needed or requested.
Coordinate visitation at hospitals, homes of shut-ins, and the entire church membership.
Coordinate all Christian Education (CE) needs and activities, with the assistance of a CE committee.
Actively involved in all aspects of Upper Deer Creek Church and be visible and available to the congregation.
Resolve conflict within the staff or within the congregation, utilizing the deacon board as necessary.
Model the practice of personal evangelism and ensure the church is challenged and equipped to be obedient to the Great Commission.
Appropriate time for personal reading, research, meditation.
Convey a professional and positive image and attitude regarding Upper Deer Creek Church.
This is a demanding position based on the full responsibility for Upper Deer Creek Church operations. The Senior Pastor handles detailed, complex concepts and problems, balances multiple tasks simultaneously, and makes appropriately considered decisions.
He must maintain a flexible work schedule to meet these demands. Hours may be long and irregular.
