Job Description:

Reynoldsburg United Methodist Church is a multigenerational community on the east side of Columbus, Ohio seeking a creative, outgoing leader to coordinate our ministry for elementary students (Kindergarten-4th graders). This modern, evangelical church currently leads about 1,000 people each week in worship, in both traditional and contemporary settings, at one location. The responsibilities of this role would be to coordinate an elementary ministry, which enthusiastically introduces kids to Jesus, grows their faith and engages them in worship and mission. This requires skills in curriculum development/implementation, communication, administration, and organization, gifts in relationship building with children and families, and team building experience with volunteer leaders. In addition to a love for working with children, a degree in a related field of study and at least 3 years of experience in ministry are also required. Position Purpose


To develop a prevailing ministry with elementary students and families which enthusiastically introduces students to Jesus, grows their faith, engages them in worship and in mission. 

To develop relationships with students, parents, families and influential leaders in the church to ensure success of this purpose. 

To align Elementary Ministry in every fashion with the mission and vision of Reynoldsburg UMC.


Essential Functions and Basic Duties*


1. Organizational Planning and Direction


  • Develop and implement curriculum/programming on a weekly basis, to include Sunday morning, Wednesday evenings and any other designated times (this may include leading in a classroom, leading Large Group/Worship or other needs)
  • Insure availability of curriculum and curriculum supplies/media to all servant leaders
  • Align the  elementary ministry consistent with church mission and vision
  • Coordinate with the Minister of Children and Discipleship staff to ensure thoughtful transitions through each age group while enhancing overall discipleship program objectives
  • Be in partnership with parents to shepherd their children and grow their child’s relationship with Jesus while supporting parents in their role
  • Cultivate positive relationships among children, staff, servants, congregation and the community-at-large
  • Participate in long term strategic planning for the ministry and church as a member of the Lead Team

2. Administrative Responsibilities 

  • Oversees ordering and management of required supplies and equipment
  • Maintain all areas of parent/church/community communications, to include: Parent    Newsletters and meetings, Compassion Outreach information, emails and social media
  • Coordinate with Minister of Children and appropriate committees/groups to organize/implement special events: VBS, Milestone/Family events and any other designated special events
  • Operate within budget requirements and maintain appropriate financial reporting procedures
  • Creates timely and appropriate responses to all communications
  • Meets all deadlines, as assigned 

3. Staff Development

  • Build, equip, and maintain a sustainable servant leader team of reliable, trusted adults/student leaders to plan and implement an effective ministry
  • Maintain constant, open communication with potential and current servant leaders (email, team/personal contact), to include conducting team meetings, trainings and Safe Sanctuary procedural requirements
  • Collaborate with other church ministry leaders through frequent reflection and vision alignment
  • Participate in continuing education opportunities to stay current on the latest trends in Children’s Ministry

Performance Measurements

  • Elementary curriculum is effectively administered and reflects the mission and vision of RUMC
  • Consistent, timely and appropriate communication and relationship with parents is observed
  • Servant leaders are continuously monitored/coached to help develop improved techniques and skills in their areas of leadership
  • Demonstrates a strong skillset of curriculum development and classroom management techniques
  • Abides by Reynoldsburg UMC Personnel manual and policies
  • Actively engaged in personal faith growth as observed by lifestyle choices, practice of spiritual disciplines and openness to accountability



Required Qualifications


  1. Must love God with all your heart, soul and mind with a passion for leading students and families to Jesus
  2. Must love children and families
  3. Education/Certification: a degree, in related field of study, or equivalent experience
  4. Knowledge:
  • Best practices in children’s ministry and adolescent development
  • Biblical knowledge and understanding and appreciation of orthodox, Wesleyan, United Methodist theology and tradition
  • Experience with and understanding of social media and technology sites that children, families and the church utilizes
  • Contemporary computer skillsets for office and audio visual/media: Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point, Pro Presenter, Constant Contact 

        5. Experience Required:  At least 3 years of experience in the field of ministry

        6. Professional Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to manage, empower and grow servants
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Possess contemporary computer skillsets
  • Ability to work independently as well as on a team 

       7. Certifications: Federal & State background check clearance; CPR & First Aid certification desired
