Children’s Ministry Pastor



To pastor children and their families at First Baptist Church Jacksonville, FL.



The Children’s Ministry Pastor reports to the Executive Pastor of Education.


Ministry Relationships:


Relate closely with the Executive Pastor of Education, Pastors on staff, ministry leaders/volunteers, children and their parents.





Children’s Ministry Oversight (Grades 1-5)


Lead Children’s Ministry Directors

  • Lead team by recruiting, training, developing and equipping adult members who jointly oversee each grade within Children’s Ministry
  • Jointly coordinate comprehensive ministry vision, strategy and measurable goals, including one and three year plans. To be done in collaboration with Executive Pastor of Education
  • Develop and oversee the budget for Children’s Ministry
  • Regularly pray for children/families


Wednesday Night

  • Organize and lead meetings with directors and other volunteers
  • Available and visible for parents/children


Sunday School

  • Oversee and coordinate curriculum
  • Partner with directors to recruit/train/lead volunteers from teachers to greeters


Family Ministry

  • Promote the primacy of the parent’s relationship to their children in the gospel ministry.
  • Visitation that includes entire family
  • Maintain regular communication with Parents
  • Produce/provide resources to equip parents for their role in making disciples in their homes



  • Oversee periodic events that promote evangelism, fellowship, and discipleship


Relationships and Discipleship

  • Initiate personal contact with leaders and parents and develop personal relationships for the purpose of encouragement and discipleship
  • Provide spiritual nurture through biblical instruction, guidance, godly role modeling
  • Maintain at least 2-5 discipleship relationships at any given time




Meet with Executive Pastor of Education weekly for prayer and review

Meet with Education Staff weekly (Planning, calendars, prayer, etc.)






  • Fulfill the Scriptural requirements and standards of an elder as found in I Timothy 3:1-17; Titus 1:5-9; I Peter 5:1-4.
  • Be a servant leader with vision.
  • Publicly confess that he has accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, that Jesus died for his sins, that God raised Jesus from the dead and that His shed blood id the only hope for salvation and eternal life, and demonstrate in his life that he has been born again through evidence of a changed life or evidence of the fruit of the Spirit of God.



  • Have strong people skills with a shepherd’s heart.
  • Be able to resolve conflict.
  • Give evidence of the spiritual gift of Pastor/Teacher through the ability and willingness to teach and communicate the Word of God in a clear, practical manner.



  • Have a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Theological training
