Vibrant Church is affiliated with the Assemblies of God (AG), the largest Pentecostal organization within Christianity. With an average attendance of about 350, it is one of the largest AG churches in the state of Vermont. What birthed out of AG tent meetings in 1945, is today, a thriving and growing organism that seeks to impact the surrounding region and the world around them.

Vibrant Church is rich in history and vision for the future. The church recognizes that culture is ever changing, but the Gospel never changes. In a modem time where it is easy to be stagnant, Vibrant Church looks to the future as a time of pre-visioning and purpose. Vibrant fully believes that "the best is yet to come". Each year starts with a season of intense prayer and refocusing on what God has for the church body, and Vibrant is looking to fully grasp what God has next.

About the Position:

The role of the Executive Pastor (XP) at Vibrant Church is to assist the Lead Pastor (LP) in overseeing the life and direction of the church under the direction of the Vibrant Church Board.  This will require a firm grasp of the beliefs, values and strategy of Vibrant Church, as well as the ability to align staff and key leadership teams with its mission. The XP will offer pastoral leadership to the congregation alongside the LP and board. The XP will ensure that the systems, practices, and policies of the church responsibly and effectively support its ministry activities. This position will combine Operations and Ministry to work together – the ideal candidate for this job will understand and be able to handle the everyday details while working towards overall discipleship goals.

The Executive Pastor will be responsible for the following:

Strategic Leadership and Planning:  Responsible for strategic planning and staff coordination in the execution of the church’s mission and vision. The XP will assist in defining strategic goals and action plans. The XP will provide the catalyzing challenges and activities which allow Vibrant Church to remain true to its mission and vision, and develop new ministry programs so that the church is appropriately responsive to identified needs and church health.

Staff Supervision and Development:  Provides leadership to the staff team and serves as personnel director for pastors and paid staff. The XP will lead, evaluate, and mentor existing staff in their respective areas of ministry and prioritize staff additions. 

Administration:  Oversee and execute the administration of the church through appropriate staff, lay leadership teams, and consultants (as needed). Ensure the completion of business, facility, and logistical support functions through staff and volunteers. 

Marketing and Communications:  Responsible for protecting and promoting Vibrant Church’s unique identity or “brand” through internal and external communications. Ensure that the message is communicated with quality and creativity and the primary target, the unchurched, always in mind. 

Reproducing the Church:  Recognizing that God is positioning Vibrant Church to impact people’s lives beyond South Burlington, the XP will actively pursue opportunities to expand ministries under the direction of the LP to reach more people for Jesus.


What We Are Searching For/Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree is expected.


Proven, successful leadership is required. The successful candidate will either have a successful business career leading others or a successful ministry career leading other staff or volunteers. A candidate with great potential will be considered, but successful leadership in some area of work will be required to be considered.
