GENERAL SUMMARY (What is done and why)


In partnership with the Senior Pastor, be responsible for conducting funerals, making hospital calls, home visits, supply preaching and Bible study leadership and general pastoral ministry.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Majority of duties performed, but not meant to be all inclusive nor prevent other duties from being assigned as necessary.)


  • Regular visits to those who are ill, injured, and convalescing in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and nursing homes.  To provide information on status of patients in order to assist other staff deacons, etc. in such visitation.
  • Be available for conducting funeral services as needed.  To oversee the church’s ministry to those who are bereaved.  To provide personal ministry to bereaved families by such caring acts as visits, phone calls, assistance with funeral service planning, etc.
  • Supply the pulpit as requested by the Senior Pastor.
  • Assist with Wednesday evening Bible teaching on a periodic basis as assigned by the Pastor and to assist with discipleship training
  • Be the staff liaison to committees with responsibilities pertaining to personal benevolent and crisis ministry (i.e. Benevolence Committee).
  • Be available for conducting wedding ceremonies as needed.
  • Prepare, submit and administer the budget for related ministry area.
  • Support the ongoing ministry of the church and lead by example through faithfulness in tithing and worship attendance.
  • Develop personal spiritual growth through a regular program of prayer and Bible study.
  • Accept any other assignments made by the Business Administrator.
  • Accept any other responsibilities assigned by the Senior Pastor.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels and licenses/certifications normally required to perform the duties of this position.   • Demonstrated leadership and team building skills. 
  • Adequate interpersonal, oral and written communications skills.
  • Must be a baptized Christian specifically recognized by the Church, and be in agreement with the accepted theological doctrines of the Church. 



WORKING CONDITIONS (Typical working conditions associated with this type of work and environmental hazards, if any, that may be encountered in performing the duties of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

Internal: Work is normally performed in a climate controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of job duties. Work does include local travel and the possibility of more travel.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS (The physical effort generally associated with this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.)

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. Work may include occasional pushing, pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds such as files, documents, and computer printouts. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboard at a moderate skill level.
