Worship Pastor | Job Description

About Us

As a staff and church, we seek to honor God through the story that He is writing at Voyagers and in our community. We are passionate about following Jesus and loving other people the way that He did. We are a gospel centered community that desires to see the love of Jesus transform lives, and we exist to equip and empower people across generations to discover the talents, gifts and callings that God has on their life. Since we believe that Jesus challenges us to love and engage those outside our four walls, Voyagers seeks to partner with other local churches to meet the needs of our city as well as our world. Inspired by Jesus’ love for us, we want to be a courageous, legacy-leaving community…one that is outward focused and missional.

At Voyagers we believe that the most important thing about church is people, and as a community, we aim to shape the future of Orange County.

The worship pastor shall oversee and produce each worship service, and special programs.  Although the lead pastor is the final say in terms of setting the theme and overall direction, the worship pastor will oversee and coordinate all the details that a service encompasses.  The worship pastor must be a visionary who is creative in leading people to God; one who can communicate a direction in a way that inspires those around him/her to join in the pursuit of that vision.  This position is a pastoral one that requires the individual to serve not solely as a musical or performing arts director, but also as a shepherd to the people who serve in this ministry.  The worship pastor will also provide technical direction and leadership.

  • Grow in such intimacy with Jesus Christ that He is your greatest passion and the leader of every aspect of your life (Phil 3:8; Gal 2:20), including demonstrating integrity and humility.

  • Work closely with the Lead Pastor and the Sunday morning teacher for any given week to insure creativity and thematic consistency with regard to VBC worship services.

  • Coordinate with programming teams in selection of weekly worship music.

  • Coordinate and build our volunteer vocal/instrumental teams.

  • Lead rehearsals, including:

  • Making final decisions on overall song arrangements and song transitions.
  • Preparing, assigning and teaching supporting vocal parts to the participating vocalists when applicable (or delegating this to appropriate team members).
  • Lead Sunday AM pre-rehearsal & pre-service meetings.

  • Lead, co-lead or facilitate worship services (Lead 3 weekends per month on average) and to assist other ministries in worship.

  • Work with the Lead Pastor and the elder board to develop philosophy of worship and be responsible for implementing such philosophy.

  • Work with developing youth worship teams for children & student ministries (but main service is first priority).

  • Attend Staff Meetings.

  • Attend Men’s Retreat and oversee its worship.

  • Spiritually lead the worship team (devotionals, shepherding team members, teaching them about worship from a biblical viewpoint).

  • Spiritually lead the congregation in the purpose and meaning of worship.

  • Provide non-music creative input for worship services.

  • Train, equip and mentor techs for all church ministries.

Tech Ministry Oversight (Audio/Visual/Lighting):

  • In coordination with designated technical advisor, oversee maintenance and acquisition of AV equipment for the church.

  • Meets the requirements of a pastor as outlined in Galatians 5:22-26, 1 Timothy 3:1-7, and Titus 1:6-9.

  • Has demonstrated an eagerness to work hard with a personal passion & experience serving in worship ministry.

  • B.A. or B.S. Required. Seminary Degree preferred.

  • Possess good organizational skills and efficient work characteristics.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills working with staff and volunteers.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Lead Pastor

 Expectations & Requirements

  • Model integrated participation in Rooted, Home Groups, and Weekend Services.

  • Agree with and live out the vision and values of Voyagers Bible Church and adhere to the guidelines.

  • Participate in staff meetings and other leadership gatherings as required by supervisor.

  • Understands it is a privilege to serve the Lord in vocational ministry and that those who serve God on staff at Voyagers Bible Church are expected to embrace a high biblical standard of conduct and lifestyle both public and personal.

  • This position is full time (40 hours a week), exempt & eligible for full time benefits.

Please do not apply for this position by directly emailing a Voyagers staff member- rather, apply through this job posting or by sending your resume to Thank you.
