Highland Park Church in Lakeland, Florida has a mission to lead people to love God and love others. We are seeking to hire our next Pastor to Elementary Students and Families. The successful candidate will have
a daily walk with Jesus, a passion and vision to minister to children and their families, and experience in leading children's ministry in a large church setting over multiple services.
The Pastor to Elementary Students and Families shall serve as a Program Pastor at Highland Park Church for 1st-5th grade and shall fulfill the responsibilities of the minister in the spirit of 1 Timothy 3:2-7. This pastor is also expected to live
in harmony with the general and special rules of the Church of the Nazarene as stated in the Manual: Church of the Nazarene. Employment shall be for a term of not more than one year, and shall be renewable upon recommendation of the Lead Pastor at the beginning
of each fiscal year.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To coordinate Saturday Evening/Sunday Morning/Wednesday Night teaching for children 1st grade through 5th grade. Provide leadership and supervision for the directors and coordinators as they fulfill ministry for elementary children.
- To chose and develop appropriate curriculum and materials and make sure they are provided for all classes. To develop and assist leaders in recruiting and training workers for their areas of ministry.
- To recruit and train volunteers and leadership for Sunday school, Children’s Church, Wednesday programming and all areas of this ministry.
To create a friendly atmosphere for children by overseeing and supervising workers so that they are more comfortable and able to teach and care for the children.
To provide every child with an opportunity to accept Christ as their Savior. To encourage every child to consider the way God might speak about his/her future ministry, giving special focus to missions.
Ensure that lay ministers are participating in pastoral care and to personally be responsible for pastoral care to children and their families.
Develop discipleship opportunities for all children including Wednesday night programming, camps, retreats and other events.
To evaluate the use of the facilities in the Children’s areas to ensure that it is being used to its greatest benefit.
To evaluate the use of facilities by additional groups that use classroom space.
To work in preparing for any additional needs for special events related to Lights of Lakeland, Holidays, Revivals, Family Days, etc. To plan a Children’s Crusade in harmony with the church’s calendar with the Director of Childhood Development.
To maintain proper facility care in the Elementary Department.
To work in providing outreach care to Elementary Children and their families.
To contact all visitors during the week following their visit.
- To educate and prepare youth for baptism and church membership.
Develop an annual budget for the Elementary Children’s ministry areas To and oversee expenditures in order to maintain budgetary integrity
To develop an annual ministry plan with specific measurable goals and strategies to achieve them.
To develop job descriptions for each paid and volunteer position in your area of ministry.
To develop and keep a correct and up-to-date organizational flow-chart for your ministry area.
To ensure all paid workers and volunteers have a background check and that all policies as outlined in the “Child & Workers Protection Policy” are followed.

An extremely important aspect of this position is the spiritual character and integrity of the individual who fills it. The Pastor to Elementary Students and Families should also demonstrate administrative skills, be a team leader, possess spiritual
sensitivity, and exhibit these qualities in everyday life. This pastor must have a love for youth and their parents. The Pastor to Elementary Students and Families acknowledges the responsibility to act in the best interest of Highland Park Church of the
Nazarene at all times, and is expected to conduct his/her private and public life in the manner which will not embarrass the church. Additionally, all pastor, ministers, and directors are to have an experience of salvation, baptism, and sanctification. They
are to share their faith, promote the spiritual good of the church, serve the community, and express the love of God to those they have contact with.
