About the Position:

The purpose of the Worship Pastor is to provide pastoral leadership to the worship ministries of FBC Odessa as an integral part of the church’s mission to reach Odessa, the Permian Basin, and the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

With leadership from the Holy Spirit, this person will be the “producer” of all worship services and special programs at First Odessa. Although the Senior Pastor is the “director” in terms of setting the theme and overall vision of the church, this position will oversee and coordinate all complimentary details of the worship experience.

The ideal candidate for this role will be a visionary who is passionately creative in leading people to experience God in celebrative worship. This will be done by creating an environment incorporating a praise team, progressive choir, and orchestra combination which ushers the congregation into an interactive corporate worship experience. The style is a combination of contemporary worship as well as updated traditional foundations. He will be a leader who can communicate a direction in ministry that inspires those around to join in pursuing that vision. He will further be pastoral, to serve as shepherd to the people involved in worship ministries.

What We Are Searching For/Qualifications:

A demonstrated track record of leadership and excellence in music and worship ministry with a college degree required and seminary or graduate study preferred.

The following describes many of the characteristics of the ideal candidate for the Worship Pastor:

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ coupled with a clear and undeniable call to vocational ministry service in worship leadership for the glory of God.
  • An authentic and growing walk with Jesus Christ through the ongoing spiritual disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, personal worship, and fellowship.
  • A clear and personal conviction to moral purity.
  • A strong and relentless desire for excellence in all things worship and ministry related.
  • A self-starter and a team player who maintains a positive attitude.
  • A clear commitment to the evangelistic mission and vision of First Odessa.

About the Location:

Odessa, Texas, is the county seat of Ector County and a component of the larger Midland-Odessa metroplex. The economy of Odessa is heavily influenced by the oil and gas industry. Both a low cost of living and one of the state’s lowest unemployment rates contribute to Odessa’s population growth. The city and surrounding area boasts growing economic strength from major distribution centers such as Family Dollar and Coca Cola, as well as major employers such as Saulsbury Industries, Halliburton and other large oil and gas production and service companies.

Advanced educational opportunities are plentiful in the Midland/Odessa area, ranging from a premiere junior college, Odessa College, and an amazing 4-year and graduate study institution, the University of Texas Permian Basin. Odessa is also home to a local branch of the Texas Tech Health Science Center, training many for entrance into the medical profession.

While a larger city, Odessa maintains a small town feel and many of its residents enjoy the unique accessibility of excellent dining and entertainment options, substantiating why Odessa was named the 3rdfastest growing city in the United States in Forbes Magazine (2014).
