Job Type: Full-Time

Job Description:

The Director of Kids & Family Ministry will serve as the primary leader and “master builder” for ministry serving kids and families with kids. This is one of the most important roles at Rise Church. We have seen parents come to faith in Christ through their kids (because their kids visited Rise one time and didn’t want to miss again). We are a church of young families and a major part of our vision is to walk alongside, support, and equip these families.

Statistics show us that if a kid is introduced to Jesus Christ as a child, the chance they will follow Jesus for the rest of their life is drastically increased. Our vision is to partner with parents as we work together to guide their kids toward a growing relationship with Jesus.

We currently have 2 Sunday services and are gearing up to launch a 3rd very soon. The Director of Kids & Family Ministry role will oversee the kids and family ministry for Rise Church’s regular on-going worship services, as well as special events throughout the year.

Qualities We Are Seeking For The Role:

  • A growing relationship with God through Jesus Christ
  • Agreement with the Rise Church mission, vision, values, structure, and strategies
  • A deep-rooted passion for and commitment to serving kids and families by being the leader who designs and creates environments, systems, and structures to help them grow deeper in relationship with Jesus, their families, ministry leaders, and each other
  • A visionary spirit committed to leading the ministry toward growth and constantly improving it in all areas
  • Desire and ability to focus majority of time on equipping, training, recruiting, and leading a large team of volunteers to do the actual work of the ministry (rather than doing it yourself)
  • Desire and ability to oversee, train, and delegate significant responsibilities to interns and volunteer leaders (giving your job away)
  • Desire and ability to design, plan, and execute ministry strategies and systems, to move toward growth, in order to see kids and families thrive
  • Experience serving as part of a medium-to-large church, growing, changing Kids Ministry team

Leadership Principles:

  • Consistently seeking growth as a follower of Christ and as a leader
  • Willingness and ability to embrace the philosophy that leaders develop leaders; this role requires the primary focus of creating and implementing systems and structures within which others engage in relational ministry to kids and families
  • Be an active learner and student of the most effective kids ministries and apply those practices to Rise Church (in context)
  • Recognize the Kids & Family Ministry is a critical part of the overall Rise Church ministry, rather than its own standalone department
  • Be a team player who supports and contributes to the overall mission of Rise Church and handles all relationships and responsibilities with teachability, humility, and flexibility

Primary Role Description:

  • The Director of Kids & Family Ministry is the primary leader and visionary for ministries serving kids and families with kids.
  • Recruit, retain, and support effective volunteer teams who are doing the work of the ministry (Ephesians 4:11-12)
  • Create and implement systems for volunteer teams to serve with great effectiveness while also protecting their health (not overworking, ability to attend services themselves, feeling valued)
  • Volunteer teams include, and should continue to include, a wide variety of roles and responsibilities to cover each part of the entire system
  • Equip and coach volunteer teams to administrate and execute all Kids & Family Ministry programs with excellence
  • Oversee and maintain the logistics of ensuring a safe and secure environment for kids and families, including volunteer screening, background checks, safety training, check-in and check-out systems, and maintaining the ministry space by keeping a high standard of cleanliness, organization, and aesthetics
  • Study and implement the most current and effective ideas for ministering to the spiritual and developmental needs of kids in our context (including curriculum and special events)
  • Ensure provision of practical support to parents, coming alongside them to engage their kids in spiritual formation (family events, parent classes, resources for parents to follow up with their kids)
  • Work closely with the Pastor of Youth & Young Adults to ensure a smooth transition every year for kids transitioning out of the kids program
  • Create and oversee the annual Kids & Family Ministry budget
  • Maintain an annual calendar and consistent communication to families, keeping them well-informed and also inviting their participation
  • Oversee the strategic welcome and follow up system for all new families and kids who visit Rise Church
  • Oversee efforts to connect kids to the overall Rise Church community, including seasonal events, Baptism Sundays, Child Dedication, etc
  • Brainstorm and create dynamic midweek and summer programs for kids that serve Rise Church families and reach families in the area
