Job Description:

This position oversees the Student Ministry at Jersey Baptist Church, developing effective ministry practices in partnership with parents to encourage students (grades 6-12) to grow into people who care for others and connect them to Christ (what we call C2 Disciples).  The Student Minister at Jersey will focus on equipping middle school and high school students to love and follow Christ, but he simply cannot do this alone.  He must be able to inspire, delegate, build and maintain a ministry team of volunteers.  The Student Minister must seek to help students reach students, and find ways to provide discipleship and coaches to aid our students in being Christ on their campuses and in their spheres of influence.  Finally, the Student Minister must prepare students and help them have a positive transition into the college ministry.


Minimum Job Requirements

  • Love for students with a passion to see them come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and grow into a disciple
  • Seminary degree or undergraduate degree in Student Ministries and/or Young Adult Ministries, and/or related job experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of Student Ministries / Young Adult Ministries best practices
  • Create a safe place of belonging in which all students are encouraged, motivated and uplifted.
  • Grounded in the Word of God
  • Ability to teach to large groups
  • Knowledge of current issues challenging students in their faith and how to strengthen their faith
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Passion for evangelism
  • Calling to work with students

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop relationships with students attending Jersey and in the communities we serve, seeking to see them come to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and grow as Caring and Connecting Disciples.
  • Provide ministry direction for students in grades 6-12 in alignment with our church’s:

                                Vision – Growing C2 (Caring and Connecting) Disciples
                                Mission Statement – Caring for People and Connecting them to Christ
                                Pathway (Worship, Grow, Serve, Care & Connect)

  • Oversee all planning and organization for student ministry programs in the church, to comprehensively include the four areas of our Pathway: Worship (Student Service), Grow (On and Off Campus Bible Studies), Serve, and Disciple
  • Establish strong and effective relationships with parents and families of students in grades 6-12
  • Develop and manage Student Ministries budget
  • Oversee the leading, recruiting, training and communication to ministry volunteers working with students in grades 6-12 who will model being C2 Disciples
  • Plan and conduct special events to encourage students to grow as C2 Disciples
  • Working with the Next Gen team on special projects
  • Work with College ministry team on transitioning High School Seniors into the college ministry positively
  • Work with the Missions Director to plan, organize and lead mission trips for students locally, in North America and Internationally
  • Other duties as assigned by the Next Gen Minister, Head Pastor and/or Executive Director
