Job Description:

The Director will oversee ministries to children and their families, develop programs according to a thoughtful vision established for the children's ministries and create a balance of faith development, impactful service, and enriching social activities.


God's vision for FUMC has been identified by its membership as:  Being good neighbors to make Little Rock a place where children THRIVE. The Director will set the vision for FUMC age level ministries and place primary emphasis on mentoring, mission and community.  The vision will be created in light of FUMC's core values: 


Trust – Empowering people to experience trust through honesty, vulnerability, and compassion.

Health – A sense of wholeness through spiritual, emotional, and physical health.

Relationships – Relationship building in any form is essential to understanding and relating to God who exists as a relationship.

  1. Ability to design and implement a wide range of age-appropriate ministry for children.
  2. Ability to develop strong, healthy and supportive relationships with children, their families and volunteers.
  3. Ability to develop programs that will engage children of the church and children of the community.
  4. Ability to work in concert with the Director of Neighboring, the Director of Youth Ministries, and the Director of Community Engagement to provide ministry opportunities for the entire congregation.
  5. Exceptional organizational skills.
  6. Nurture and develop one’s own spiritual journey and faith in Jesus Christ.


  1. Dedication to the church’s mission, appreciating its rather unique history and priorities among United Methodist churches in Arkansas.
  2. Strong work ethic with a willingness to work weekends and nights.
  3. Seek and participate in relevant continuing education on a regular basis.
  4. Effective verbal and written communication with parents, guardians, volunteers and church staff.
  5. Budgeting for activities, resources and expenses.          
  6. Participative in church staff meetings, gatherings and coordinated events.
  7. Coordination skills to include FUMC children in community activities, church wide activities, conference events and more.
  8. Ability to follow our Safe Sanctuary policy, including maintenance of appropriate training and certification for nursery staff.
  9. Meet regularly with volunteers for planning/training and relationship/team building.
