About the Organization:
Sugar Creek Baptist Church's story began in 1974 when it was established as a mission plant of South Main Baptist Church in Houston, TX. That small group of people began meeting in a private home in the Sugar Creek subdivision, and the church was officially
chartered in 1975 as Sugar Creek Baptist Church.
From 1974 to 2001, under the leadership of the first three pastors, Jim Ranton, Dr. Dalton Havard, and Fenton Morehead, SCBC grew from 150 in worship to a congregation of over 1,700. During that time, facilities were built, purchased, and expanded, and two
nationally recognized outreach ministries, Living Water International and Second Mile Mission Center, were established. SCBC has also been involved in the planting of more than 50 churches in the greater Houston area. Today, led by strong and passionate leadership
teams, SCBC is uniquely ethnically diverse, with increasing growth evident across the minorities of the church.
Since 2002, Lead Pastor, Dr. Mark Hartman, has led the church to grow from 1,700 to over 4,300 in worship, and the annual budget has exponentially grown. SCBC is debt free and has expanded local, national, and global missions with a yearly giving of over
2.3 million. It is also a multisite church with campuses in Spanish, and Missouri City, with a third campus projected to occupy the region of Richmond/Rosenberg. With a vision and strategy to expand, Sugar Creek Baptist Church is poised to make a significant
impact throughout its region, as it focuses on building the Kingdom in a way that it compels one to love and lead all people to life change in Christ.
About the Position:
The primary purpose of the Children’s Minister of Sugar Creek Baptist Church is to provide the leadership, vision, and direction necessary to make a lasting impact in the lives of children. The position will be responsible for the overall ministry to children,
from birth through the completion of the 5th grade, while serving on the executive staff team. In addition to direct responsibilities of which the role will have oversight, he/she will be expected to make themselves available to serve in other ministry areas
and divisions as deemed appropriate, in the spirit of teamwork, for the overall welfare and edification of the church.
What We Are Searching For:
The ideal candidate will be exceedingly gifted in leadership, teaching, mentoring/coaching, administration, strategic planning, and strong organizational skills in order to effectively achieve the expectations of the position. He/she must have a strong
passion to disciple children/families and can do so in a fast-paced, high-intensity, ministry environment that thrives on creativity and organization. The successful candidate will possess the ability to create, build, and maintain a ‘world class’ Children’s
Ministry program through efficient planning, implementation, and execution, with its ultimate goal being to contribute to the spiritual development of children.
While education is not a predetermining factor in the selection of a new Children’s Minister, the successful candidate must be one who has demonstrated several years of development and administrative oversight in an executive leadership role, preferably
in the area of Children’s Ministry in a church of 3,000-5,000 attendees, or a rapidly growing church of 1,000-2,000 attendees (if latter, candidate experience should speak to substantial growth in ministry area(s) of responsibility).
The candidate will have had experience working as an effective leader of ministry teams, with the responsibility of providing vision for volunteers, and the ability to develop and monitor a vibrant, creative, and attractive ministry to children that is equally
focused on evangelism and discipleship. They will possess a pioneering spirit with a strong desire to nurture, expand, and maximize the potential of the Children’s Ministry at SCBC.
