Job Description:

I. Basic Responsibilities
             a. Oversee the entire Children’s Ministry program (birth-6th grade) so that children are introduced to the Christian faith and the life of the church
             b. Work as a team player with the Lead Pastor, staff, and the General Board to assure a high quality and meaningful program.
             c. Cast and effectively communicate the vision for the Children’s Ministry to volunteers and the church body.
II. General Description of Duties
            a. Sunday Morning Christian Experience:
                      i. Recruit, train and supervise leaders and teaching staff, ensure high retention levels and celebrate successes of volunteers
                     ii. Supervise age-coordinators
                    iii. Follow up with visitors and absentees, making use of a well-maintained database
                    iv. Choose curriculum and supplies that fit into the vision of the children’s ministry
            b. Mid-Week Experience:
                     i. Recruit, train and supervise childcare coordinator, childcare providers and staff
                    ii. Develop and direct enjoyable programs that meet spiritual needs
                   iii. Follow up with visitors and absentees
            c. Nursery and Preschool
                   i. Hire and supervise a paid nursery and preschool coordinator and supervisor
                  ii. Maintain an atmosphere that is clean, hospitable and Christian
                 iii. Work with the coordinator to assure the highest possible standards for childcare providers
            d. Childcare
                  i. Supervise a variety of part-time staff
                 ii. Carry out interviews and background checks on prospective employees
                iii. Coordination of child care providers for various ministries, bible studies, and special events
            e. Special Events:
                 i. Coordinate annual summer camp experiences
                ii. Coordinate and lead the annual VBS program
               iii. Plan and carry out other annual special events
               iv. Maintain professional growth by observing other ministries and trends
                v. Maintain personal growth by setting time aside to pursue needed education, and setting time aside for Scripture and prayer
           f. Growth and Development
                i. Plan and conduct periodic baptism classes
               ii. Other assignments as assigned by the Lead Pastor            

III. Pastoral Duties
          a. Pray with and for people, and carry out visitations
          b. Carry out baptisms, counseling, weddings and funerals
          c. Actively participate with the rest of the pastoral staff in planning, vision casting, mutual support and evaluation of ministry programs
IV. Accountability
         a. Accountable to the Lead Pastor
V. Time Expectations
         a. Average of 45 hours per week


First Christian Church of Santa Maria, located on the beautiful central coast of California, is looking for a Children’s Ministry Pastor to help our Children grow in Christ. We are a non-denominational, evangelical church with contemporary worship and an open front door to our community. Our weekly average Sunday adult worship attendance is 900.  Our current childrens attendance is 175.  We are blessed with a diverse group of people from a variety of backgrounds that come together in Hope & Passion! 

The ideal candidate for this position would be someone with an outgoing, engaging style that is relatable to a wide variety of people.   They would possess strong leadership skills to be used to develop volunteer leaders. They would have a passion for growing our kids and a desire to bring Life to the ministry through relationships, programs & events.  We desire candidates to have at least five years of ministry experience, a bachelor’s degree, and a family excited to be engaged in church life.
