First Baptist Church is a small independent Baptist Church of about 20-30 members, located in the rural southeastern plains of Walsh, Colorado.  We are looking for a pastor following the retirement of our pastor after 42 years.  We are a broken church looking for a broken pastor ready to serve a broken community.  Psalm 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.  This is a position for someone that is serious about God’s work.  First Baptist Church is a conservative body; we use the KJV from the pulpit and our classrooms.  We have to be challenged from the word, but we are not stuck in the past with our ministry.

Southeastern Colorado is sometimes called the Great American Desert. The climate here is most often hot, dusty, and dry. It is very wide open and you can see mirages of the towns 20-30 miles away on a clear day. We have a beautiful view of the stars and you can see almost any constellation in our clear night skies.

We are located in a rural farming and ranching community. Walsh is a town of about 400 in a county of about 4,000. We do have a local grocery store, library, auto parts stores, bank, and convenience store/fuel station in town among several other businesses.

First Baptist Church Mission Statement:

Our mission is to know God, to love and please Him, to glorify and enjoy Him, and to make Him known through the proclamation of the Gospel of the finished, redemptive work of His Son, Jesus Christ, and the conforming of our lives to His own as revealed in Holy Scripture, and doing so through the transforming power and enabling of His Holy Spirit. We came here to die to self, Satan, and this world's system that is in rebellion against God and His Word, and to be alive and obedient to Christ and His Holy Spirit in us, to be servants to one another, "in honor preferring one another", and to be an example, a light, and a witness to the lost around us.

Our Church Covenant:

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now, in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of  this church in knowledge, holiness, and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines; to give it a sacred preeminence over all institutions of human origin; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

We also engage to maintain family and personal devotions; to be faithful to our marriage vows and Savior both in mind and body; to diligently educate our children in the Word of God; to seek the salvation of our relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances; to maintain an exemplary testimony before the lost; to be just in our dealings; to avoid all gossip, backbiting, unrighteous anger, and the use of profane or suggestive language; to abstain from the sale and use of alcohol, the use of addictive substances such as tobacco, marijuana, and other mind altering drugs, from the abuse of prescription drugs, and from the viewing of pornography. We do these things to be an example of the believers, to avoid being a stumbling block, and to advance the kingdom of our Savior

We further engage to watch over one another in brotherly love; to remember each other in prayer; to aid one another in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courtesy in speech; to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the example and command of our Savior to secure it without delay.

We moreover engage, that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church of like faith and practice where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word.

We have recently revised our constitution and statement of faith. If you would like a copy please request it via email and we will be happy to send it.
