He should be able to effectively handle and communicate Biblical Truth in large weekly student gatherings/services. Good people skills, respect for authority and an encouraging-loving attitude towards others is required. Because of our Student Ministry's connections with area sports programs, it would be beneficial for him to be comfortable in relating to athletes and coaches. (Reason: Having been a student pastor myself, I believe that it is easier for band kids to follow sports kids than for sports kids to follow band kids!) We are looking for someone who is married and is a graduate of or nearing graduation from seminary. Our student ministry has taken annual mission trips to Nicaragua for the past 8 years and will need to continue a missional commitment in our student ministry both in Roanoke and around the world. Our spring Disciple Now event this year saw 650+ students in attendance. Our church may begin construction sometime next year on a 13,000+ sq ft student center which will include a 500 seat contemporary worship area. First Baptist Roanoke is located 55 miles from Liberty University and have used over 100 LU students in our ministry in recent years. Please feel free to contact me if you would like to personally discuss a potential candidate or details about the position.
