First Baptist Church Youth Internship Program Purpose of Internship The Youth Internship Program of FBC is designed to help prepare and equip young men and women who sense God may be calling them into full-time Church ministry. As an intern, you will: • Walk alongside youth and their families and point them to Jesus Christ (this is, like, spiritual formation) • Clarify your vocational goals; prepare and equip for how God will lead you next • Develop spiritually and professionally • Bring your gifts and creativity to the youth ministry • Equip the youth and adult leaders for ministry • Work in an atmosphere of personal and professional guidance and support What it’ll be like (aside from just pure fun) The internship is a part-time position for one year, beginning in August. The intern will gain experience leading in both small and large group settings and have opportunities to develop in the following areas: • Pastoral care • Teaching • Planning and running youth programs • Leading volunteers • Ministry administration Qualifications • He/she must have assurance of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ • He/she must have a good growth pattern in prayer, Bible study, connection to the church • He/she must have already proven himself/herself in ministry prior to applying for the Internship Program • He/she must be in agreement with the doctrinal statement of FBC and the Canadian Baptists of Western Canada Compensation Interns will receive a small monthly stipend. Interns are encouraged to supplement this stipend by raising personal financial support. An outside part-time job is appropriate, but must accommodate the internship schedule About the youth group Mission: To form deep friendship with each other and with God, and to do what God is sending us to do. Structure: Sunday morning youth service, Friday night small groups, monthly justice/service project, bi-monthly big crazy event, yearly retreat and short-term mission trip, Responsibilities • Shepherd a small group of high school students, which includes leading a small group, praying for the students and building relationships with them outside of ministry programs. If possible this will also include one-on-one discipleship • Assist the youth director in the oversight of Sunday morning, Friday night, special events, justice and service projects, Winter Retreat, short-term mission trip, etc. • Participate in weekly training and planning meetings with youth director, and monthly leader meetings with adult leaders. • Develop relationships with parents of students in the youth ministry • Assist the youth director in communication with students and families, including fb, email, website, phone calls, mailings, and database management • Seek opportunities to assist, equip, and encourage the volunteer adult leaders • Cultivate your own relationship with God through personal study, Sabbath, prayer and worship Accountability The youth intern is responsible to the Church Leadership Team, working directly under the supervision of the youth director Join us?!
