Assistant Pastor Calvary Chapel Job Description Christian and Missionary Alliance 986 Nordyke Road Cincinnati, Ohio 45255 Calvary Chapel CMA exists to connect multiple generations to God and each other. Core Values: 1. We value the inerrant Word of God as our source of truth, our path to faith in Jesus Christ and our guide for living a life of obedience that pleases God. Each ministry of our church will emphasize a deeper understanding of the Scriptures (John 17:17; John 14:6). 2. We value evangelism. We will continually seek to live lives of service to a world of lost people, both home and abroad, seeking to lead them to the healing grace of Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:14-16; Acts 1:8). 3. We value fellowship in the spiritual community provided through the local church, and will continue to encourage the mutual support that comes from connecting young and old in spiritual experience (Hebrews 10:23-25). 4. We value worship of the living God. Seeking to glorify God in all things, the entirety of our lives will be presented as offerings of worship to our Creator (Romans 12:1; I Cor 10:31). The work of the Assistant Pastor of Calvary Chapel, in all its various aspects, will emphasize the mission and core values of our local church. Specific Responsibilities I. Youth Ministry The Assistant Pastor shall fully oversee, coordinate and seek to further develop all aspects of youth ministry to junior and senior high school students. The Assistant Pastor shall endeavor to provide a program that emphasizes solid scriptural teaching, discipleship training, evangelism, and the importance of both local outreach and global missions. Classes and activities should be developed to nurture the cohesiveness of the group, as well as youth ministry significance to the broader congregation. In consultation with the Senior Pastor, the Assistant Pastor should seek to carry forth a shepherding/discipling program with junior and senior highers, being viewed as their shepherding connection to the body at large. The Assistant Pastor is encouraged to become involved in the local and district networking opportunities . Approximately 50% of the Assistant Pastor’s time and ministry focus with be given to youth ministry efforts. II. Christian Education The Assistant Pastor shall partner with the Senior Pastor in leadership of the Christian Education committee. He shall work closely with the Senior Pastor and C.E. committee in assessing the needs of Children, Youth and Adult Christian education, with specific oversight in Children, Youth and Young Adult areas. Beyond direct youth ministry involvement, the Assistant Pastor will aid in recruiting and training of volunteers and leaders for the above ministry areas, and page two Assistant Pastor: Job Description could be asked to directly lead certain areas of personal giftedness and passion (children, young adults, young couples) as needed. This should account for another 20% of the Assistant Pastor’s work. III. Pastoral Care Clearly, the Assistant Pastor and Senior Pastor are to serve together as a pastoral team. With this in mind, and under the supervision of the Senior Pastor, The Assistant Pastor will share in the following responsibilities: A. Work with the Senior Pastor in the planning of the church calendar and program. B. Participate in worship services with specific responsibilities for celebrations such as baptism or communion. C. Be given preaching opportunities 8 to 10 times per year. D. Work with the Senior Pastor in visitation, follow-up, evangelism, outreach, small group and discipleship efforts as time and evident ability allows. IV. Additional Information A. The daily schedule and office hours shall be established and maintained under the direction of the Senior Pastor. B. The scheduling of off days shall be arranged in consultation and mutual agreement with the Senior Pastor. C. The planning of vacation time for the Assistant Pastor shall be in consultation with the Senior Pastor. As a guideline for the Assistant, the Governing Board has established that after six months of ministry, he shall be eligible for one week of vacation time. In the second year, he shall be eligible for two weeks of vacation time. In the case of an assistant who has accumulated prior years of ministry as an official worker of the C.&M.A. before coming on staff at Calvary Chapel, the Governing Board will take those years into consideration. D. The Assistant Pastor (and spouse) will be sent to District Conference each year. Next in order of priority will be sending the Assistant Pastor and spouse to the District Workers Retreat. As funds allow, we will endeavor to send the Assistant Pastor to the National Youth Workers Conference. The successful candidate will have completed his Bachelor’s degree, desire ordination in the Christian and Missionary Alliance, and seek to establish at least a three year commitment.
