First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn
The Director of Contemporary Music will bring leadership vision, musicality and the Word of God to First Presbyterian Church of Glen Ellyn’s contemporary worship and praise experience. First Pres’ contemporary music ministry has grown significantly in recent years, in size but more importantly in quality and diversity. There is strength in every position among musicians and a long list of male and female vocalists. And while the typical worship service is electric-guitar-driven and reflects much of what is current in contemporary Christian music (K-LOVE), the ministry likes to “mix-it-up,” from time-to-time offering alternative styles including bluegrass (banjo, dobro, fiddle, guitar, upright bass), gospel/soul (horn section), and acoustic/folk. First Pres offers both contemporary and traditional formats of worship each weekend. Both formats are growing, but the contemporary style is the largest and fastest growing. Services are Saturday 5 p.m. (informal, hymn-based), Sunday 9:15 a.m. (contemporary) and Sunday 11 a.m. (traditional). Typical weekend worship attendance is 450, with 300 attending the contemporary service. First Pres’ is a church that is engaged and involved. The Director of Contemporary Music can expect to be involved in other ministries, including but not limited to children’s ministries, family ministries, VBS, special events (e.g. World Vision Aids Experience). We are evangelical and reformed, and have a strong staff and highly engaged lay leadership. And we are missional, reflected in dozens of mission partners in the Chicago-area, across the United States, and in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia. You can learn more about us on our website at And while we’ve been affected by the economic downturn, we are excited to embrace this as an opportunity to fine-tune our vision for the future. If this resonates with you and you strive for excellence in worship leadership, we want to speak with you. Please forward a resume and cover letter to
