Function: This position will set the vision for, oversee, and manage all the activities of the church which incorporate music, worship and the performing arts. This will be done in accordance with the vision and philosophy of ministry of the church. Qualifications: The Celebration Arts Director shall have musical talent and a working knowledge of varied musical styles and have a minimum of ten years of experience leading music. He/she shall have a working knowledge of sound and light technology. He/she shall have a thorough understanding of, belief in, and commitment to the vision and mission of St. John Lutheran Church. He/she shall have a heart, passions, and calling for ministry. This person shall possess strong people/relational and strong leadership skills and be able to recruit, motivate and equip people. Being able to build teams and groups is essential. The Celebration Arts Director should be a committed follower of Jesus Christ who is able to lead others in the growth of their faith by word and example. The Celebration Arts Director should be a team player. The Celebration Arts Director shall be a member of St. John Lutheran Church (or become a member committed to the teachings of the Lutheran Church, within 6 months of employment). This is to ensure a good understanding of the ministry philosophy, opportunities, personnel, and operation of the church. In addition, as a maturing Christian, this person must be committed to 1) regular worship attendance, 2) a regular prayer and devotional life, 3) continuing Christian growth through education or small groups, 4) generous financial support of St. John (the encouraged standard is a tithe or more), and 5) involvement in missions through service. Experience – Have a minimum of ten years of experience leading music ministry with a minimum of three years leading music ministry in a congregation of 600+ in worship. Education – Minimum education of a Bachelors Degree in an area of music. Preferred: Masters Degree in an area of music. Supervision: The Celebration Arts Director is accountable to and responsible to the Senior Pastor. Duties and Responsibilities: 1. In conjunction with the Pastoral staff, set the vision and direction for and manage the Celebration Arts Department of St. John Lutheran Church. 2. Provide or ensure leadership at all worship events. 3. Provide leadership, vision, and training for, and review all Celebration Arts paid staff. 4. Provide or ensure leadership, vision and training for, and review all non-paid staff. 5. Manage and oversee media team - sound, lights, and power point. 6. Manage, oversee, and insure training of the worship hospitality team (ushers). 7. Coordinate all worship/performing arts productions. 8. Take responsibility for the writing of weekly worship services and submit them to the Sr. Pastor and worship leaders for review and input. The Sr. Pastor has the final authority over all aspects of worship. 9. Take responsibility for the musical direction of the department. 10. Ensure leadership for all musical/drama groups, including youth and teens. 11. Stay current with the latest musical styles, worship formats, and technology. 12. Schedule guest speakers, artists, and interviews. 13. Provide or ensure music when called for by special events. 14. In conjunction with other Celebration Arts staff, recruit new leaders. 15. Attend staff meetings and others. Represent Music Ministries at weekly staff team meetings and other meetings as needed. 16. Recruit and develop new people for praise band and singers, choirs, groups, and events. 17. Develop and implement community music events, i.e. July 4th Freedom Festival as well as pageants for Easter and Christmas. 18. Develop special choirs for Father’s Day and other important events. 19. Develop orchestra accompanists for use in worship. 20. Develop and recruit leaders for youth and children’s choirs. Terms of Employment: This position is full time, exempt, salaried. Vacation will be per anniversary year as agreed upon by policy or letter of employment. Additional compensation for weddings or funerals will be the responsibility of the Director of Celebration Arts.
