PURPOSE: The senior pastor’s principle responsibility is to provide oversight to the general spiritual condition and direction of the congregation. The pastor shall lead the Church in its five primary purposes: Worship, Discipleship, Evangelism, Fellowship and Ministry, as set forth in the New Testament. He shall act as chief administrator, while partnering with the lay leadership and staff in establishing and implementing the vision for the Church. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Worship – As part of his overall responsibility in corporate worship, the senior pastor must be an effective communicator, accurately applying Bible truths to challenge the congregation. He will be responsible for the administration of the Church’s ordinances. 2. Discipleship – The senior pastor shall, with other leaders, spiritually nurture and care for the congregation. Through example, delegation and individual contacts, he must disciple and equips others in the Christian life, encouraging believers toward Christian maturity. 3. Evangelism – The senior pastor must have a heart for reaching the lost and unchurched, and encourage mission’s participation. 4. Fellowship – He must lead in facilitating of fellowship among the Church body, including conducting weddings and funerals. 5. Ministry – The pastor should encourage the Church to be active, using their talents and gifts to serve within and outside the Church. 6. Other Responsibilities: Be available for counseling and pastoral care opportunities. Provide oversight with all Church staff, serve as moderator of the Church Council and business meetings and communicate matters to the congregation. Under the leading of the Holy Spirit, he must provide vision, goals and direction, partnering with the congregation to impact the community for the Lord. Have an accountability partner. Disciple, develop and encourage Church staff. Encourage spiritual maturity in the lay leadership. Requirement QUALIFICATIONS: 1. A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ 2. Consistent spiritual and moral character and lifestyle, complying with the covenant of First Southern Baptist Church and the biblical leadership qualification of an elder described in 2 Timothy 3:17, Titus 1:5-9, and Galatians 5:22-23 3. Agreement with the doctrinal statement of the 2000 Baptist Faith and Message 4. Competent in organization, administration and interpersonal relationships 5. Potential and desire to remain in a long-term ministry at First Southern Baptist Church 6. Competent in bible teaching and preaching 7. Successful ministry experience 8. Adequate skill and education for the position
