After applying to jobs successfully and more importantly, unsuccessfully for years, I can attest to the power of a good resume.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most focus so much on the content, they overlook the value of the format. Your resume is your first introduction to every employer, don\u2019t make them have to struggle to find your value with a poorly formatted document, let the format help you create your story and really sell who you are.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I know this can be so tedious, but the value of a well-spaced, well-organized resume will help you at the very best, stand apart from the competition, and at the very least keep you from being overlooked due to disorganization.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"what-to-include-how-to-present-it\"><strong>What to Include &amp; How to Present It<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a simple, yet effective, resume layout to help you get started:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">YOUR NAME<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Your current job title, profession, or position if it relates to the job you are applying to.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Email Address \u2013 Phone Number<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Mailing Address (Make sure this is a permanent or current address)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Work\/Volunteer Experience&nbsp;<\/strong>(Heads help break up your resume in digestible chunks!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Most Recent Position Title, Dates of Employment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Name of the Organization, Location<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>List essential job functions that relate to the skills you will need for the position you are applying for.<\/li><li>Mention accomplishments, not just tasks or skills \u2013 Show your future employer your value!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Second Most Recent Position Title, Dates of Employment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Name of the Organization, Location<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Even if this position is similar to the first one, it\u2019s important to list new skills, responsibilities, and achievements. Your resume is your first impression, make it count!&nbsp;<\/li><li>Make sure you also have a mentor or friend look over your resume to check for grammatical errors.&nbsp;<\/li><li>It\u2019s also effective to start your bullet points with action words (managed, led, created, started, etc.)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Addition Employment or Volunteer Experience, Dates of Employment<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Name of the Organization, Location<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>While it\u2019s important to list a variety of job experiences, remember your resume is valuable real estate, so give the most space to the positions you have held that relate most to the job you are applying to.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Don\u2019t waste space, bullet points, words on something that is less important. Hiring managers can tell when you are just trying to fill space just for the sake of filling space!&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Highest Degree, Year of Completion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Your School, Location<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This is a good opportunity to list any academic awards or additional studies related to the job you are interested in.<\/li><li>Listing your GPA is not necessary.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your Second Highest Degree, Year of Completion<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Your School, Location<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>If you have a Master\u2019s or Doctorate, you can list your previous college-level degree here.&nbsp;<\/li><li>You do not need to list your High School diploma if you have already listed any college experience, it is just a waste of valuable space.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Awards\/Certifications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Name of Award,&nbsp;<em>Name of Organization that Granted it<\/em><ul><li>Very brief description of what it stands for or means.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Name of the Certification,&nbsp;<em>Years Active\/Valid<\/em><\/li><li>This section is not required if you don\u2019t have anything important\/relevant to include here.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Skills<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>This is a great space to share any skills you think are valuable for an employer to be aware of that you were unable to attribute to an academic or work experience.&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you are highly skilled in any programs, software, etc. this is a great place to show off.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is a great reference and starting point for formatting your resume.
